Summary:
The Concept Artist is a senior individual contributor assigned to important, complex 2D or 3D artwork for projects in bidding, development and in production phases.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Plays a key role in the development of conceptual designs for story inspiration and production use
• Creates characters and environments that articulate the Director's vision for the production
• Applies expert understanding of character anatomy, design elements and needs of the animation process to design and develop memorable, “iconic” characters for any type of creative project
• Develops stirring, captivating and powerful environments ranging from interior and exterior structures to nature-based or futuristic settings, drawing on expert knowledge of architecture, terrain and spatial dynamics
• Has a unique and leading vision of how art should function and the ability to inspire a wide range of audiences, including clients and management, to adopt this vision
• Critiques and guides work under development
• Ensures that creative and technical staff have sufficient information about the artwork throughout the development and production process
• Explores, creates and enhances artwork that informs the story process
• Creates illustrated 2D and 3D "key art" to inform development and production work
• Presents art concepts and designs for review and approval to the production hierarchy and clients
• Troubleshoots a wide range of art and technical problems arising out of the development of new artwork
• Develops unprecedented solutions and techniques that meet current art and technical direction and drive future uses
• Leads research and development initiatives
• Reviews and adjusts artwork under development
• Participates in candidate interviews to contribute expert feedback and weigh in on candidate’s hire-ability
• Mentors less experienced artists and interns to contribute to their growth
• May track and review the work of individual contributors
• May participate in performance reviews

Education, Experience and Skills Required:
• Recognized internally and externally as an expert in the field
• Demonstrates expert ability in modeling, texture art and illustration
• Knowledgeable in anatomy and the dynamics of physical movement as it pertains to character design
• Knowledge in specialized design elements as they relate to environment artwork
• Expert knowledge of Maya, Mudbox, ZBrush, Photoshop and other work related software
• Able to develop visual ideas for any type of creative project
• 10+ years of progressively complex related experience
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent certification
