Hi, guys and galls.

Does anyone here know what kind of materials Nathan Fowkes uses in his charcoal drawings? I have figured out the uses charcoal blocks *daah!*, but I can't seem to find then anywhere online. The only kind I find is the much narrower compressed kind Generals sell(the half inch ones). These give a nice black, but they don't give that wide brush effect he seems to get. Do you guys know where these can be bought? I live in Norway and the crap they sell in stores here are epic. Please help!

He uses a variety of stuff, but I know for sure that he uses these a lot. He also smudges with his hands, and uses the blade of his hand to get the big sweeping strokes you're thinking of

He is also incredibly, ridiculously, absurdly good, which probably helps more than his materials.

Crush: Thank you so much! Kinda figured out he had to be using compressed charcoal like that of some kind, but now I know for sure. They're already ordered;) I have to give that smudging technique a try also...

Noah Bradley: Yeah, I figured that one out too, haha!

Have a nice day, folks!

If you're going to smudge, don't forget to add a few sharp edges here and there, things can get very soft very quickly (especially if you're going to use those alphacolours) :)

That drawing is definitely good. How can he do the eye brows by just using smudge?
