i just finished this guy in painter 7. i really wanna learn painter better.. it's so cool but damn complex. that's why i only used oilpastels for this painting (except for some details i did with dirty marker). i know of some anatomy issues and that the pose of the legs would cause him to fall... but whatever, i'm glad i came that far.

looks, nice, but I dont see the orcish in it. I t looks more like a minotaur (see the 3d concept forums). To make him more orcish, I suggest making him uglier (with more facial deformations and stuff), horns?, hair, and stuff.
overall I like the ways colored are used. cool job, and keep it up!

I work with the pastels alot in painter in the chalk section,
i find the "grain" is best set above 50 so it not so hard
and dry to move across the service. Under brush:control below the brush size and opacity.
some dry brushing nice but i wanted to be able to control that,
and i find grain does that cause by default is set low about 23.
under edit preferences brush tracking i set the pressure power. towards higher like 1.42
you could turn paper surface down as well if u wanted.
this is just somethings i do might not be what ur looking for.

GriNGoLoCo:
i just put the "orcish" in the name because i coulndn't come up with something better.. and because his skin is greenish :D
thanx anyways, i'll try to find a better name for my characters next time ;)
Darrell:
Thanx, i'll definately try that... i had some problems with the pressure settings in combination with the grain.. i'm still a noob when it comes to painter so i appreciate every tip i get :chug:

I think you should spend more time to add details and definition to the face and the cloths.
because at this time we can't see the specificities and the originality of your design.
