I am running winXP and Painter 7 used to crash a lot - I grabbed the patch off the procreate site and it seems to be doing better. I have been saving multiple verions of my file.

Install the Painter 7 Update if you haven't already, using the following steps:

1. Move any files you created into a backup folder outside of the Painter 7 folders.

2. Uninstall Painter 7.

3. Manually delete any remaining Painter 7 folders and files.

4. Reboot.

5. Install Painter 7 and don't open it even one time.

6. Install the Painter 7 Update.

7. Reboot.

8. Launch Painter 7

After using Painter 7, go to the main Painter 7 folder and delete the default Painter Scripts file (Painter.ssd). It will be regenerated the next time Painter is opened. Keep this file small and if you want to record Scripts, use the Script Mover to create a new Scripts library and move your recorded Script into this new Scripts Library. Load it only when you want to play the Script.

In Edit > Preferences > General, set the Auto Save Scripts for [ ] days number lower than the maximum of 10 days as it takes up memory to Auto Save Scripts.

In Edit > Preferences > Undo, set the Undo number lower than the maximum of 32 as it takes up memory to save for Undo-ing.

Save frequently and save in a series of numbered RIFF files.

If you have a problem with corrupted RIFF files, save them Uncompressed. The default is Compressed, so you'll need to check the Uncompressed box when saving.

After working in Painter for an hour or so, shut down Painter, go to the Painter 7 Brushes folder and delete the Pre-built Brush File. This file can grow large very quickly, depending on which brushes you've been using and for how long you've been using them. It's used to store brush information to speed up brush loading and when it's deleted, it's regenerated the next time Painter is launched. When it's too large, it can slow down Painter's performance and cause other negative behaviors. Check the Pre-built Brush File size each time you close Painter and delete it if it's large.

Close other programs while running Painter.

Regularly: Clear out browser cache and temp files, and do regular system maintenance.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

Hi Davi
Dunno if this helps but here's my 2 cents.
I work in Mac OSX and had a problem with the odd large Painter 7 RIFF file getting corrupted. Talked to Procreate tech support and they said to save large layered files as a photoshop file.
