In this piece I was basically exploring an orange/ green color scheme (lots of green ambient light on the figure). It's actually my first digital painting (Photoshop+mouse, no reference), but please no "pretty good considering it's your first attempt" comments!!

Seriously, just tell me what you think. Hopefully I'll get more than four responses this time...

I looked at this one for quite a while (and no, not because its a naked lady) and I like the highlights on her and the trees. Her form looks pretty good, a few areas could be slightly more defined. The pallet choice looks very swampy but I get the impression that she is on a river bank at the edge of a forest. So depending on what the case is you may want to rethink some of the brown color choices with greens. I did see your comment above about the colors, but it looks washed out to me. If it were me, I would define the smoke more. I would give it less volume and make it look whispy. Also, her hair looks like it is flowing off to the left, I don't see any other things to show that wind is blowing. The most obvious would be the smoke. I would make her hair look like its flowing down more, maybe even have a little coming over her shoulders. Over all though a very solid piece of art.

269 views and one one reply!? (thanks Scubasteve)

I mean, I've been expecting around a 1% reply rate, which means at least one more person should comment. Two comments? Is that so much to ask!?!?!!!!!!!!!!?!? What's the point of the forum anyway!?

Ok, now I'm expecting to get slammed, so let me say in advance, I love you all.

The atmosphere is pretty nice, caters to my personal tastes. If you complain about comments you're less likely to get them though. There are other forums that would better cater to your art, rather than this one. Have fun, and good luck.

I don't get it.

Don't get bent outta shape. I'm just saying, this looks more like a work of art, than a piece of concept art. And this is conceptart.org. So you're prolly going to get better responses at places like eatpoo or cgtalk, some place like that. I get upset when no one responds too, but unless you're pro, or a fucking art god, then you have to deal with it. Now, good luck with it, the piece is nice. Keep at it, and have fun.

Hey, thanks, I'm not bent at all, I just didn't get what you meant by that. I guess I wasn't taking the URL literally.

So does this count as 6 replies now?

hey i was looking through your website and i love the landscapes the most since those are always my favorites. I like all the LOTR art u have since it looks like something suitable for a book cover, very very cool stuff! yea not a lot of people reply cause theyre too lazy to comment on it or they think it's jsut average. i usually comment on anything i see that shows a lot of time and effort spent on it.

oh yeah btw, i think this particular piece is concept art since... there's a .0000000001% chance that you'll see a sexy naked lady in the woods offering some thingy to some thingy , so yeah, you're OK with the URL lol.. why it doesnt generate a lot of replies saying wow is probably because u chose real world colors, and people wanna get away from that.. i dunno.. i'm just making shit up.. now look what i've done, i just typed an essay! :( damn.

That's a very good picture, especially with a mouse. It feels complete, and very atmospheric. Great detail to the land, and good colour to the body. Fantastic shadows and highlights. Only thing I can say is... the pot-like object seems too light; the arms seem like they're just thrusted into the sky without any weight on them. The sad thing is, I don't see the exact solution to remedy that 'error.'

Myriadian - What an eye you have!!

You're absolutely right. Originally there was no pot (the smoke was just coming out of her finger tips). I added the pot because I felt like rendering some metal (i.e. seeing how well I could do it in this new-found medium for me, since the piece was basically a study). I had forgotten that until you reminded me. I suppose the solution is to remove the bloody thing now! Thanks

Add some drop shadows. Add a little drop shadow on the pot around where her left hand's fingers are clutching at the pot, and a bigger drop shadow on the other side of the pot where her right hand is. Make this drop shadow cover the index and middle finger, leading into her forearm.

This, I believe, will give the pot the depth it needs to flow into the rest of the piece. I'm not sure, though; I wouldn't know where to begin, and it'd look like crap with me at the helm, so I'm not sure if this'll help blend in the pot =D

Very stunning piece, though. I like the warm tones.
