It's late, it's frivolous, and it will be done to death if I don't get in early.

I seem to have some time on my hands at work today... daily sketch is the PERFECT thing to get my creativity flowing.
This took.. um about 3-4 hours id say. With a few breaks.

Matt Dixon- looks awesome
sketchling - I like the atmosphere, the colours, great!

Okay, this didn't turn out well. :) I'm trying out minimalism & black outlines. So far no success. I think I'll submit another later today.

Sketchling - holy cow, that's fantastic.

Alright, this is:

http://a.domaindlx.com/PhoeniXX/PSH%201.jpg

My first actual drawing in Photoshop;
With a MOUSE.
My first DSG (which is something I`ll do more often from now on)
Not all that bad. I like my shading a bit. Though it could`ve been better.

samhain - looks to me you work your mouse just fine
OLSEN - cool concept, those flowers almost look like evil sunflowers.
Railboy - It`s a bit empty, but I like the lines.
sketchling - Wow, and only four hours on that. It really has a nice carnivorous GARDEN feel to it.
Wocket - what could eat me there? Doesnt look very harmful.

djstoker:

The best thing I can think of for you to try is make some interesting brushes that are not so round and blurry. Or use the riound and blurry brush and use a sharp brush like a pencil afterwards to give it contrast.

Also, the background looks like an afterthought... and it doesnt really create any contrast. It actually draws the eye away from the tree itself. (except the floor which works better)

Another thing that might help is to look at the rythm of the roots... they are all evenly spaced, as to a lesser extent are the branches. Its something the brain instinctivley does, but if you are aware of it, try breaking the regularity.

Anyways, Keep it up!
K
(oh, if you prefer drawing by hand, do so, then scan in and use it as a guide. Its great to work like that)

I really wish I had more free time today because I love the topic. There are some great pics already! Unfortunately just a quickie at lunch hour for me... and a pretty standard carnivore plant at that, lol. Ah well, perhaps tonight.

I found this site dedicated to carnivorous plants. In this seed bank section each type of seed has a description and photos at several stages of life - in case anyone else needed some inspiration, too. :)

http://carnivorousplants.org/seedbank/seeds.cgi

Sketchling, Hermchen & Matt Dixon - really like the atmosphere you all have created!

Wocket, it's sort of cute.. and then freaky! Nice job intigrating the shape of that little creature, you don't notice it at first which makes it more of a suprise when you do see it.

Hermchen: Yours really appeals to me - it's frightening.
Matt: Excellent work! Deadly and dangerous.
Wocket - Very subtle danger lurking under those lilypads - it took me a while to get it, and then I was trapped there.

Everyone's stuff is great today - such a talented group of people on this site!!

@Wocket: I love the concept and it's very well done!!
@Matt Dixon: Amazing!
@Sketchling: it seems so peaceful for a carnivorous garden but it's really beautiful.
@Railboy: It looks great you should finish it ^^
@gealflings: Revenge of the vegetables, lol! it rocks!
@others: great pictures too!

EDIT: oh and I forgot to give some info about my pic. ~1h30 Painter 8 and Photoshop CS for final color adjustment. I used an anatomy book as reference for the skull.

Is is just me or is the DSG not the best place to get even the slightest comment? All I see here is praise really.

lahbaid - I really do like that coloring, but you really should do something with that background.
Carnifex - Sketchy, but nice job on the figures and perspective.
NecroNet - It could really use some details.

Second submission. This one was done in the free version of ProjectDogWaffle. Kinda scary after photoshop and painter - no layers, limited undo - where's my safety net ? Painted by mouse on a laptop, so apologies if the gamma seems off to others.

This topic is TOO MUCH FUN to pass up.

"This is the rare and extremely deadly 'Honeypot Man-trap' flower. It is the only known species of plant to have addapted an auditory lure for its human prey. Such specific targetting of one species by another has never been seen in such contrast or with such effectiveness. Male observers are encouraged to listen to recordings of this flower in place of firsthand observation."

Inspired by Hunger Artist. Attempt to use textures and more local color and more overall abstraction...looks like I got a long way to go, hahaha

Sketchling- thanks for the tip about using less of the round brushes! I've been using almost nothing but the round brushes up till now, I guess that figures why I wasn't getting the results I wanted. :D

My first time at the DSG and my first post, too.

Heard about this place lurking 'round Ebony Keep, and I thought this would be a great way to get in some much needed daily practice.

So here's my contribution. Don't step on the DandeLIONS! Har. :P

http://www.madamemiller.com/blar/carn_dsg.jpg

This was an interesting topic, with lots of great sketches. I think there's nice lighting and lovely use of color in many of them.

Fav's thus far:
Matt Dixon - Augh! He saw me! It's magical and creepy at the same time.
lahbaid - Although you don't like the colored version, I _really_ like the direction you were going with the lighting.
sketchling - This one really draws me in. Almost feel like I'm there.
Hermchen - Smooooth!
Dementist - Haha! Love the insane lines. I think no background works in this case.
Wednesday - Beautiful.
Iotrez - Looooveee.

I'd offer crits, but I think I'd better get a bit more acquainted around here first.
