I sort of thought I was doing OK with colour management between Painter and Photoshop until I started this recent image.... now I'm pulling my hair out trying to understand what's going on.

I have both Painter 11 and Photoshop CS5 set to use the same working RGB profiles (AdobeRGB at the moment but have tried sRGB also). The particular image has also been tried as both sRBG and AdobeRGB.

Here are the screenshots showing the problem In all images the same file is open in both Painter and PS at the same time (on two monitors).

Top left is Painter with colour management turned on.
Top right is Photoshop.
Bottom left is Painter with colour management turned off.
Bottom left is Photoshop.

The samples RGB colours seem to show that Painter displays the image the same as Photoshop only when Colour Management is 'off'

Anyone got any ideas? Something to do with using Adobe CMM instead of Windows?

Link to picture is here (http://www.johnmalcolm3.webspace.virginmedia.com/wtf.jpg)... didn't want to attach it here directly due to size

That is what I was going to ask you, since that's the only thing I noticed was different. Adobe "CMM"

Have you tried switching it?

I'll try that tomorrow afternoon, and report back. I've also posted this problem over at the PainterFactory.

OK. Switched the 'color engine' in Painter's colour management screen to 'Windows CMS' instead of 'Adobe CMM' and straight away I noticed the difference. The result with Painter's colour management on now looks pretty much how it looks working on the same file in Photoshop - which is still using Adobe's colour management engine.

Now I want to know why Adobe's engine doesn't play fair with Painter.

Thanks for the idea - you've saved me hours more of gnashing my teeth and pulling out my hair. :)
