Didn't know how to make this one into something so I took a bit of inspiration from an illustration in the wraith rulebook by white wolf (sorry I forget the artist).

Anyhoo about 45mins PS.

Matt,
You know, this is exactly what I would have envisioned in my minds eye for this topic. Nice!! If you have time, can you lay out some detail on how you create these babies? Your process, what tools you use, etc?

Keep up the good work man.

Matt Dixon- An amazing piece! I like the touch of mood in the painting, the light-brown atmosphere..I would call this one of your best ones 'till now:p.

schmu_20mol-nice and stylish one. But its a bit hard to make out whats happening. beacause ofthe flatness and randomness of shapes. Al I can make out that a guy is standing in front of hist table with a hourgalss on it and a window behind it.

Apricotsoup-nice rendering and compostition. It looks a bit poetical. But how would this guy make clocks with such hands:P. I wuld cut off the space below the painting, or maybe not...hmm..I think I need to do some compostionstudyin':p. Can anyone help?

Today I decided to cut on working on my sketch in favor of writing comments. hehehe. So my clockworker eh... maker is a real sketchy one. About an hour.

@ Wocket: Thatīsone close up. Is that a photo you painted over??

@ ApricotSoup: Not bad fer 45min. He looks torn.

@ schmu_20mol: I had troubles to make out heads or tails untill I spotted the hourglas.

@ Matt Dixon: :D Cīmon. Tell us how long you needed. We can dig it.

@ djstoker: Nice Fez

@ samhain: Okay. THAT got character. HEīs got a story. And if itīs only how he lost it. Kewl.

@ lahbaid: Sorry, but how is this topic related?

@ Bluedreamer: Howīs that google holding?

@ Pichuerca: Iīd like to see one you put more detail in. Iīll go look the boards.;)

@ Chermilla: Swell. Twenty minutes. cool. Take your time.

@ Codexus: Old clock with characters????

@ Milady: Well, at least yer clockmaker looks happy.

@ Sheldon/ Jaded/ Marie : Thank you so much for the comments yesterday. I will defintely color it but itīll need some time. If I remember I pm you when uploaded.

Quick one. We have a new kitten and I guess since he's constantly doing things like this, it's the first thing that came to my mind.

@bbwolf

Hehe yes, Milady asked me already why theres no clock!
I said her, that the first inspiritation i had was this face, my clockmaker is rather an spiritual being as an typical clock mechanic! ;) I don't know why, but if i hear "clockmaker" I'am everytime inspired from the strange dark ambience from Thief (the game).

Hope that helps?? And sorry for my english! :)

Sheldon - I don't really have a process for DSG stuff; each one is an experiment, and I like to try something new or different whenever I can. For this one, the topic suggested a fairly clear image so I jumped straight in with paint and roughed in the background with a big textural brush. On top of that, I added some very loose forms which I gradually worked up with some stronger values. The basics of the pic are now in place. Added some more details, then refined and tightened a few areas, before finally touching in a some stronger highlights. I mostly use my own custom brushes. This link probably makes more sense than my rambling text. Didn't save much in the early stages. :(

clock maker progress (http://www.vortex.plus.com/ClockMaker_progress.jpg)

bbwolf - This was a 'lunch break special' so the whole thing was probably a little over 50 minutes. Another advantage of digital art - if this had been a traditional piece, it'd be covered in crumbs and tea stains...! :D

Some good stuff today. Well done, all!

Went for a different style today, about 20 min. in PS 6. This is nowhere near finished, but I've got to do some school work.

Matt - serving up some good competition as usual.

Wocket - my favorite so far. I love the sharpness.

Wow. Some amazing stuff today. Matt, Olsen, and Wocket are definitely my faves thusfar. Keep 'em coming!

This was my first 'non-work-related' Tablet use today. 1.5 hours in PS7 at work while waiting to go see my friend's band play.

I went for the mad-hatter approach.

Hey all, AWESOME work on here. A few questions though...When I am drawing on paper, I sometimes have to rotate the paper to draw the proper angle... In Photoshop with a tablet, how do you mimic this, do you just rotate your canvas ?? I find it hard to get all my lines precise in Photoshop.

Olsen, beautiful color palette and character design. Sorry all that I have nothing to contribute -- been sick, felt bad today. Matt D., I like the misty atmosphere, lighting and sepia tint...Nice job all.

Matt- thanks for the process pics, very cool to see :D

Chaosphere- Unfortunately, no, not in photoshop. Just have to get used to it, really. Painter lets you rotate the canvas freely though, maybe you should look into that?

Anyway, haven't really drawn steampunk before, so decided to give it a shot:

I know it is late, but I had an idea for a lighting scheme that I've never tried before. This took me about 3 hours (not really a sketch) because I have no idea what I'm doing. I figured that it was time to quit and call it "good enough". Awesome stuff from everybody. Is it me, or is everyone stepping up the quality recently? Well, it isn't me, but you guys are kickin' serious rump.

Once again I left it to the last minute and didn't have the time to finish it as well as I'd like to. I'm starting tomorrow's early.

It turned out much different than I originally planned. Not entirely in a bad way though.

Wow. You guys never cease to amaze me!

Vely Bad Man - Very Good Man, no pun intended.
William b. Hand - That eye is really freakin' me out. Nice.
micmac - Simple but effective. Is he supposed to be a giant or are the buildings minitures?
silentbrain - That's cool. I guess Mario is fixing clocks now instead of plumbing. In the words of George Castanza, "They're all pipes!"
bgermain - Hhahah. That is so damn funny man. Nicely drawn as well. I loved the "high-tech" look to it, with the old phone, coat-hanger, and charcoal grill.
SABRE - Very cool perspective. And I LOVE the hands of the clock.
Commander Obvious - Your lighting is supurb and I am glad to see that someone used a "unmodern" time piece.
