Hey all--

I shot some photos of the famed Santa Monica boardwalk at daybreak one day and came up with this from the reference. Done in Painter steady and slow over a long while. Hope you enjoy--I would love to hear any thoughts.

You've got some really beautiful colors going on here. My one concern is about the focal point. As of now both the ferris wheel in the background and the people in the front seem to be fighting for attention. I think you should add some more detail to the people to make the image work better. Other than that, great work! Which pen tools are you using? I just got painter 8 and I find it a lot harder to use than photoshop.

I think this is great, I really love the colors and the look of it. Use to go to school in Santa Monica, nice work.

What kind of medium did you use in painter?

Thanks for the feedback. I have been struggling a little with how much detail to put in the people as I like to keep things loose. It might be a good idea to go back in there.

I am using Painter 6.1--I have not used painter 8 very much although I hear the brushes are slightly different? I am using all custom oil brushes and some pallette knife.

This is hot! Very very nice.

I agree with the focal point comment and feel like a bit more darkening of the shaded areas within the group of men and a touch of brighter highlights might give them the pop they need .

Well, I guess this is changing from a 'finished' to a 'work in progress' piece (I never know when something is 'Done'). I have addressed a lot of the issues I was having it and I think the focal point works a lot better now although I would love to hear what you think--I may try to push it just a little farther. Here is where I am at now:

wow, big differance in the two pieces. Great job. The background is awesome, that looseness works for me.
keep it up!

The technique used is brilliant and the colors used really does strike emotion, but everyone is right about the focal point thing. I want to rearange the composition, maybe move those guys over to the left. But nonetheless, brilliant.
