It's babes, trench warfare, WWII, dragons, futuristic stuff, samurai, giant robots, dark creepy asylum, noir, art deco, and Japanese influenced stuff. It's like a bunch of ca.org sketchbooks thrown together on screen.
But yeah, the writing will probably be horrible.

Haha. I had the same thought when I watched this. All common CA.org stuff put together into one movie.

I'm pretty sure a group of high school buddies and I thought of this movie in the late nineties. I agree that this will probably be a very bad film. However, 18 year old me hopes its awesome.

I have a feeling that this movie will be a bit rubbish. I'm am very cynical these days when it comes to films. Mainly because I'm frequently disappointed by them, however I am interested in seeing how this turns out.

Guys, this movie is from Zack Snyder the master of visual badassery. This can't be bad film! Even the children film Legend of Guardians was great in terms of visualization.

This is a phantom film among my friends, I saw the trailer long time ago and I thought it looks just amazing in terms of design and visualization, but no one actually talked about it. I remember we spent whole night talking about films where stuff goes boom and no one mentioned it. Then I showed them the trailer... Anyone knows who concepted stuff for it, or it won't be known until the film is released? Anyway, I'm so buying the art of book when it comes out.

Respectful disagreement:
There needs to be something beyond visuals for it to be a good film. I'm not saying that it has to be smart, or even make total sense, but there needs to be something satisfying and fun in the story and character arcs. Even if the visuals are great, if I'm constantly getting annoyed by dull dialog or bad storytelling decisions, I won't enjoy it, and I certainly won't consider it to be a good movie. If visuals are all it offers, I'll save my money and just browse my inspiration folder for 140 minutes.
And as for claiming that it can't be a bad film because Zack Snyder made it, in my opinion that argument is undermined by the fact that he made Watchmen. It thought it was pretty mediocre as a film, and pretty darn bad and extraordinarily misjudged as an adaptation of the book. I loved the hell out of 300, though, so if this movie has some of that in it I'll be happy to watch it. I can't pass judgment on Guardians because I didn't see it.

Same here man, hoping (but doubting) the writing/story will be watchable, nothing puts me off more than a movie that makes me roll my eyes constantly.
Visuals look amazing though, giant samurai with minigun ftw!

I feel conflicted... I'm not even sure if I'm going to see this one. At the very least, I hope there's some story to it and it's just not an over-sexualized trope of violence. Less slow-mo would be good too.
I liked 300... Didn't see Watchmen. I'm still disgusted at the screen-writer's reaction to the fans of the book.

I'm sure this will be fun on one level, but right now, the trailers look a little over-egged. Like they are shouting at you - YOU WILL ENJOY THIS MOVIE OR ELSE! It feels like trying to watch three or four TVs with different shows on at the same time. Where am I supposed to look! Interesting how false eyelashes are mandatory in this particular asylum.

Unfortunatley, the fact that the 'Blondie' character is the High School Musical lead girl makes my standards for the acting pretty damn low :(
At best I see it being simalar to a movie like Jurassic Park or Transformers in the way that you spend the whole movie WOAH-ing and THATSOCOOL-ing that you completley disregard the storyline and acting and spend the character development scenes fidgeting impatiently for the next action scene.
It'll probably also be comparable to Transformers in the way that they have some of the hottest babe(s) castable, and yet they may as well not be there since everyone is fapping over the badass monsters.
On a side note, the actresses in the posters seem to have recieved some of the most heavy photoshop treatment I've seen in a while; their faces look like some of the digi art from these forums.

It looks very trashy, but not in a good way. I was very divided by the last movie I saw of his, 300. On the one hand, visually impressive and exciting, but on the other, it felt like I was watching a piece of fascist propaganda, depicting a master race of fearless muscled strongmen who kill the weak and sick at birth, fighting endless hordes of disabled, mutant brown skins.

Massawyrm on AICN: Zack Snyder’s SUCKER PUNCH is a movie so terrible that it retroactively makes his entire body of work worse. (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/48998)
Ambush Bug on AICN: Guys, if you go see this film this weekend, the terrorists win. (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/49001)
Dark Horizons: It’s tempting to label “Sucker Punch” a mess, but that’s going easy on Snyder. (http://www.darkhorizons.com/reviews/1153/Sucker-Punch)
And, so far, 21% positive at Rotten Tomatoes (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/sucker-punch-2010/).

Yeah... im back from the movies and it was a pile of poo.
i tried explaining why it was a pile of poo. but this quote from io9 review pretty much explains how i felt.
The thing is, director Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) has a feel for genre. He understands the crappiest aspects of it, anyway - the scenes of CGI-fluffed action interspersed with inexplicable infodumps and character development signaled by costume changes. And he's ably demonstrated his mastery by pouring everything he knows into a single, assaultive genre mashup flick. The worst part? He decided to turn the whole cruddy package into an art flick that comments on itself. Which means that all the fighter planes and zombie soldiers and stylized strippers are intensely boring.
though i would love to see the concept art from the movie :P

I wanted this film to be good sooo badly, but apparently Snyder pushed it to hard over the edge of ridiculousness. Let's see if I can enjoy just the visuals.
But I have to say, 300 wasn't that good as well in terms of character development or plot, it was just a badass movie to look at.

I follow Massawyrm a lot on Spill. It actually takes a lot to make him mad at a movie. So my jaw nearly dropped when he said he had the urge to walk out of the theater. That doesn't happen very often.
Like, I knew it wasn't going to be good but I had no idea the movie reviewers would slaughter it. I almost want to sneak into this movie just to see how awful it is. I refuse to pay for it.

Well, at least we can be grateful that it's not another remake/sequel to an older movie, or an adaptation of a comic/tv show/Video game. On the other hand, if there is something that the critics of this have proven: it's that original characters don't make movies good.

The exposition parts hurt me to watch. It was basically teen theatre... so bad. The fantasy world stuff was pretty sweet, I have to admit, which is why I went to go see it at all. I mean, giant ghost-husk samurai warrior firing a chaingun in slow motion? I just couldn't say no.
There could have been a good movie there. Some decent pacing would have helped, better interslicing of the brothel/fantasy world stuff to make it a little more like a heist movie and less like a... like an... "it"
I want those crystals they harvested from the dragon's throat.

i have no intention to see this, because somehow i just knew it would end up like this.
movies today apparently are all bang and no fuse, like tech demos for new graphic cards, like eating cake for days without any real food anywhere around. i'm sick of it. if i eyeroll more than look at the actual movie...well, that's hollywood these days.

I mean...hot chicks with guns, dragons, WW I German zombies, Shogun giants with mini-guns, robots ninjas...hope you werent expecting something like "Citizen Kane" or "Apollo 13". Seriously, it was meant to be intense graphics and over the top fight scenes, glued together with hot eye candy. I mean, do you go to the strip club and complain about the unintellectual conversation?

They could take step further then. Remove all the dialogues and plot beacause it takes away time from action scenes and cute girls. The movie would start with fighting enemies, then it would move on to fighting different enemies and the action could go on til the end where would be final enemy. The good thing about it would be that the movie could be played 24hrs a day and you can get into the cinema at any moment and watch action scenes for as long as you can. There would be different price of the ticket depending on how long you want to watch it :).

I`ve never liked Snyder, his movies gives me nausea, andi mean it in a very literall way, cant stand all the filters, the color schemes, all that green-screen prancing about and try hard dramatic scenes, its ridiculous and its very hard to watch for me.
Sucker Punch looks like they just let a few designers and artists circle jerk on top on some hot chick actresses and call it a day, its has FF 13 syndrome all over.

started it 50 min ago, watched it until the Zipo Lighter part and i just quit because it was so boring,, the story is so dull and iritating, the action was pretty lame and the acting was kinda bad,, the lamest part was when doll killed the huge dragon with just a sword, i mean WTF.
saw the trailed a year ago and i was so pumped to see it but like usual trailers arent good, like Dragon Age 2

This makes me sad : (
I was so stoked to see this; I even bought the art book (which is very good btw) before the film came out. I don't understand how Synder could have messed this up, it looked like all the components were there to make the best cheesy girl action film ever.
I'm still going to go and see it, but with a heavy heart...

Ironically, to me the whole plot just sounds like some pervert just sat in his bedroom and tried to think of a way to incorporate strippers wearing all his favourite fetish costumes.
Now if you want to watch a seriously badass action movie that is both empowering for women and constantly awesome, watch Kill Bill.

It was better than Watchmen. Zack should stay away from established IPs. I enjoyed 300 and I enjoyed Sucker Punch. One thing, THE one thing, Snyder does well is establish the setting and story visually.
Spoilers.
The letter opener Stepfather used was a mini-katana. He also had a M1911 Pistol in his box. Both are Babydoll's only weapons throughout the movie save for the MP5(?) used and discarded in the dragon fantasy. On the wall in a glass case there were two 40 or 50 caliber flint-lock pistols. The very same ones Rocket used in the war fantasy and in the space-train fantasy. The bedroom set piece in the Theater at the asylum was a worn replica of Babydoll's bedroom. The movie begins with curtains opening on Babydoll using that set piece. All these things are either easter eggs or they point out that Babydoll may not be real. It may all be a fantasy of Sweet Pea.
Both Sweet Pea and Babydoll are big sisters. They are both responsible for their little sister's deaths. Sweet Pea plays Babydoll at the beginning of the burlesque fantasy. Another thing that makes me think there's something weird between them is the moment where Babydoll first sees Sweet Pea. They stare at each other right as Dr. Gorski begins to play music. Every time Gorski plays music, it's to kick off a fantasy sequence. The song begins when they meet and ends right before the lobotomy begins.
My other theory is that the ending isn't real. It's Babydoll's last fantasy. Which is why the Wiseman is there and the kid from the war fantasy. And why there's a billboard for Paradise Diner.
But anyways. I don't think the movie is as bad as people are making it out be.
