Howdy Folks. Modem´s workin again plus my workschedule is finally apt to lighten up, so, back to dsg.
>> Helltaxi: My favourite so far.
I kinda mixed all the last three topics. My Golem is overweighed, a gofer aka butler (kinda) and going to the prom as substitute for his megashy teenage genius owner. Boy, is she in for a surprise, hehehe. The mess in his right hand are flowers and in the other he´s a carrying a box of chock(!)lets.
I´m too goofy to color. About 2 hrs untill now. Maybe I color it later real good and post it in finally finished. :D
Carry on, folks.

Man, I live it when the DSG overlaps with stuff I am doing for myself!
I did this today (inked it at least). The robot at the top is the city's timekeeper. It holds two balls in its hand, one is a sun, and the other is a moon (not colored in). It rotates them around depending on what time of day it is. It also serves as the city's beacon, protector, and symbol. Plus its HUGE! haha, can't argue with that.
http://img6.photobucket.com/albums/v19/dfunkt/final_lines_copy.jpg
Helltaxi: Very cool. I really like it, loks kinda tribal almost.

February 29th, 2004, 03:22 PM
Well, I wasn't sure what to draw... well, until I looked at the posts when I got ready to post this. Oh well.
I went for a Blade Runner/Soryama/android thing. No color yet, so it might be a bit hard to see the relection on her.
I'm pretty happy with the sketch (looked better pre-lined), even if it isn't really a golem...
http://www.offramp.org/~ducktape/368.gif
Maybe I'll get around to coloring her... need to do some Maya for now.

Fooling around with colours!! Not so great yet. so-so satisfaction out of this one. Did this all in alias wavefront's sketchbook pro.
http://www.sandturtlecreations.com/art/golem.jpg
Dixon - Love your stuff, as usual. What program? Very painterly feel that's just awesome to look at over and over again.
Ducktape - her hands seem to be floating above the suface; good proportions though!
dfacto - what a COOL idea !! Love to see the coloured version.
bbwolf - nice ink rendering. Like to see it when it's coloured 4 sure.
jeroentje - great shading, lots of detail with minimal effort (or so it looks).
Hell taxi - painter 8 looks like it serves you well. Very neat painterly feel to it, yet without suffering for detail loss.
This topic is turning up some cool stuff!

Hi!
I'm new here but this looks like a lot of fun, I'll try to do it daily ^^
I went for a standard metal golem, The writing on the forehead is the word "emet" ("truth" in hebrew) and is part of the traditional golem myth.

I love to see the variety in which people visualize the topic :)
bbwolf: I love how clean yours look, after looking at it closer I noticed the flowers and gift in the big robots hands. It looks like its master is instructing the robot to deliver them, I like it a lot. I would really love to see it if you decide to color it :)
Matt Dixon: I'm having to create a special folder to save your art in, I just love it. Looking at it elicits emotions of happyness, not to mention how skillfull and creative the renderings are.
Ilustre: I really like how your golem is coming along, very interested to see it more fleshed out!
I have to work to keep things simple and quick, and its a struggle right now, so I appreciate your quick and simple, yet good looking design.
...
This is my first entry into a DSG, its not finished and sadly missing a background. I hope that doing these DSG's when i can will help me to learn to do things more quickly, simpler, and force me to attempt backgrounds :) And give me the more courage everyday to experiment and dig deeper into my creative cave. (and after looking at DSG's everyday, it was too much of a pull to want to join in)
This little guy, is a construct, held together and animated by magic.

Mr. Matt Dixon : you are the man. I'm guessnig ure pro? If so, where can I see more of ure work?
Marie : very awesome, my second favorite after mr. Dixon's.
I posted here for one week straight, then got busy as all hell for the last week. I dont know how I managed to squeeze this into my day...
anyways, here's my robotic golem. I know - very unoriginal, but I would love it if u feel compelled to point out mistakes and whatnot.

Hey man, your stuff is pretty cool. Nice loose style. I like your shading scheme--keeps it simple so we can see the lineart, but still brings it 'out' so to speak. Has an anime-mecha type feel to it. Myabe like an Angel from Evangelion? I think you nailed the proportions pretty good too. For improvement, definitely the first thing that comes to mind for me is to render it with more colour, but as far as a dsg goes, i think it is a mighty contribution. Great to see your work!

February 29th, 2004, 11:58 PM
thanks Sheldon!
I completely agree with you about color.
I planned on posting here every day, and I usually start work on something to post, but for the last week or so I havent had the time to finish what I start to a level that I would be comfortable posting. I'm not very skilled at digital coloring yet so it takes me a while to create something good in color. So I decided to just do lineart, add digital tint and submit. This way I can compromise and create something and at least post. When I get more time I will definitely submit in color.
I love this idea of the DSG, and I LOVE checking out everyone's renditions of these topics! Its amazing how so many people can be so creative and different!

Okay, yeah... it's just a robot, really. I sorta bailed on the golem thing, but my art has been so start-and-stop lately that I'm just glad I did anything. This probably topped off around 3 hours in Photoshop7.
Matt Dixon's and Marie's are my faves today.

This was a good topic. Well done, everyone.
William b Hand - Yay! It's wonderful to have you back. Your submissions are always a treat. Great work.
Sheldon - I use Photoshop. I've used Painter in the past ( versions 5.5 - 7 ), but I've always felt more comfortable with PS.
Dahsramu - Very nice sketch. My professional work belongs to my employer, but you can see some of my personal work at http://www.matt-dixon.co.uk. Nothing there now, but I should be updating it 'soon'... ;)
Marie - Absolutely fantastic! Love the concept and rendering.
Some of today's comments were very flattering. Thankyou very much.

Aieee! Finally took the time to do the DSG again, even though I've been peeking at everyones work almost everyday I've been too busy with other projects or too tired to join in.
I've been learning a lot lately, I hope to take the time to do more of these now.
Anyhoo, heres we go, a monochrome scribble before I go off to bed.

I began a sketch of a "the maker" building Golem, but taxes, kids birthday parties, and just being too tired preempted that.
Anyways, Matt Dixon, Dahsramu, Marie and William b. Hand, just amazing work. Mr. Hand, wow!

Matt Dixon, Marie, and Dahsramu are my top three pics! You guys have somewhat differing styles, but all three are what I am striving to acheive!
I am very pleased to have walked into this thread as I am in the middle of creating golems for my "found objects" sculpture class. At the moment I happen to be focusing on creating a robotic golem from boiler parts and misc piping. I'll have to post some sketches and pics after work and class tonight.
Way to go everyone.

Dahsramu: I love your golem! I think the skull head and his "claws" give him a lot of character, give him his life.
William b. Hand: Awesome, the more I look at yours the more I edge to the side of the monitor out of the way... he looks like he's got a mission.
MattDixon, Shadoman, Withaz, Ilustre, Dahsramu, William: thank you very much!! I'm so glad that you guys liked it :)
