hey Guys, I hope someone can help me.
I have been painting in painter 7 for about a year now and really like it.
Just to see what was what, I downloaded the trial version of painter 8.
The download didn't work AND it turned all my painter 7 files into painter 8 files.
I used to be able to open up the files by clicking on them and it would open up painter 7.
Now I have to open up painter 7 first and then open the files.
The file icons for painter 7 were the magenta paint splashes on them, now they have the painter 8 blue paint splashes on them.
I have no idea what happened or how to get it back to where it was before I try to down load the trial version of painter 8.
I even reinstalled painter 7 and I get the same results.
Every file I create even after I reinstalled painter 7 gets turned into a painter 8 file .
A sign pops up saying that this version of painter has been damaged reinstall from the original disc.
I hope some one can shed some light on this.
Thanks,
Daniel

Hey Dan
are you using Windows? Try right clicking and pick "open with/choose program" and make sure you pick painter 7 as well as check the box "always open with".
Let me know how it goes.

I have reinstalled painter 7 and the painter 8 icon and the problem is still thereI can still use painter 7, it worries me that there is this glitch in the program caused by the painter 8 trial download.
I am afraid, (being a computer know-nothing) that it will effect my art at some point.
I have already been told by a client that the files that I sent him could not be opened, even after I resent them in different formats.

did you get it figured out?
i'm no genius w/ comps either and i wish other people would try suggesting things...
but did you completely uninstall painter (both of them) before reinstalling anything? essentially deleting the stuff COMPLETELY off your comp before reinstalling, also getting rid of the painter 8 demo... etc.

Thanks I did solve the problem.
The painter8 demo was hidden in a folder and that is why I could not restart painter 7.
When I found the little bugger and sent it to the trash and delieted it,
my images reverted to the painter 7 icons.
Thank you all for your help with this.

Not sure if this will help... But-
You might have to clean out your registry... I would suggest, TuneUp Utilities. They offer a free demo. It helps allot! Trust me, I use it all the time.
Also, did you try to restart? O.o That is a leading factor in allot of problems, because your comptuer still recognizes the program, untill you restart, when ALL of the files are deleted. :D
Hey, and also, how did you get painter 7? Ive been looking for a trial FOREVER! If you could link me to one.. I would just about have a joygasm.. Email it to me please anyone! ^_^ Xanza@pixelect.net, Xanza@xanza.net, Xanza666@gmail.com!
Thank you!

Hi Daniel,
Where on the Corel site did you download a trial version of Painter 8?
I'm curious to know since Corel isn't selling it anymore.
Thanks in advance.

Xanza,
I assume illegally, right?
Not funny, darlin' Software piracy hurts all of us, whether you're grown up enough to realize that or not.

Well, then i guess that proves why you shouldn't assume... I under no circumstances use warez or any type of illegal programs. How ever, a TRIAL, is offered by the company that created the program, as a try-before-you-buy sort of thing. ;) Under no means was i trying to ask for any type of full download. haha.

I didn't see the link and your comment above sounded a bit flippant.
Do you know if that's a legal download?
It's still hard for me to imagine Corel would be allowing Painter 8 trial downloads at this point, but there's always something new to learn.

Yes, I am 1000% positive. ;) Allot of companies do it. Such as AIM? If you use it, it's a free version, intended to let you see what it's like. So you can become intrested in paying for the service if you like it.
This is the same consept. They take away your ability to export, save, save as, and other stuff like that. And, on top of that, it's an evaluation time, like 30 day's, then the software becomes inactive. And you are forced to either remove it, or buy it. :D 100% legal! ^_^
