Rgith now I'm on CS3 extended. I'm wondering if it's a good idea to get CS4 because I want to use the ColorWheel addon somone has made for it. Though, it's also compatible for CS5.

cs4 is very slow and buggy compared to cs5, you'd better skip that version to be honest.
if you're going to use Anastasiy's plugin, it has a cs3 version as well (if I remember it right though)

Hm. I'd rather get a free one.

This is only for CS4 + CS5, so I should go for CS5?

I think so.
I liked cs4 on the first glance, but it was terrible in the long run, I never upgraded.

I've now got CS5, it's pretty stable, basically like CS3 but with some improvments/things I don't need, lol.

well adobe always do a good job on stability, PS is probably the most crash-prone program I've ever used so far
cs5 has a few really nifty features (colour pod that I really liked, better opengl integration, and it was much faster than cs4 on my rig)
I'll probably completely upgrade to cs5 if painter 12 doesn't solve perfomance and stability issues that painter has since ever.

I'm stuck at CS4 until I get my new computer next year. I can't say that it is overly buggy, at least the Mac version doesn't seem so. But, my older versions were a little better. I'm glad to hear the CS5 is better. :)

PS always runs better on macs;
if you're fine with cs4, get a cs5 demo and compare them.
With my PC, cs5 was significantly faster on pretty much the same machine.
