Hello & Welcome to the DE Challenge 2010 - Spidey 'Bat in Action!'

Open to everyone and all levels of skill - have fun pushing the levels of Dynamic energy in your art! Submitting WIPs and sharing constructive crits is encouraged!


Characters:

• Spiderman, Spiderwoman, Batman and Batwoman (any combination) collaborating with their powers to beat a villain or save citizens in peril.

• The Dynamic element is 'Dynamic Action' and there is the option of making your entry a series of panels to emphasise this with a max of 3 panels.

• Have fun and be creative!


The only restrictions are:

• 1 final entry per person.
• Your piece must include any 2 of the above mentioned characters as the main focus.
• You must have a dynamic, energetic action element - feel free to enhance this via perspective, position, colour, etc.
• Have awesome fun!

After the deadline there will be a Poll-thread containing all the final entries that will run for 4 days so everyone can vote for their favourite.

You can use any combination of 2 characters that are named Spider-something or Bat-something from the Spider/Bat universes. Feel free to use other characters in the background to enhance the story of your piece.

Asatira: Welcome aboard, I'm guessing you'll go cartoony with your piece like me. Should be interesting which characters you end up using, might go Spiderwoman/Batwoman myself, or possibly Batgirl now that you mention it...

Jim Lee used something similar on his character, Deathblow, with great results. Why don't u check him out for even more ideas!

Asatira: It's a bit too early to say anything but it looks like u have a winner with the one that has Batman on a motorcycle :sungod:
It's great that u do tons of thumbnails before you decide on a final composition, a sign of a great artist in the making :rocker:

Yarg! everyone's been really busy! haha that's cool :D Annoyingly I was on earlier and had written out quite a bit of feedback and comments then we had a thunderstorm and it cut out the electric so lost what I'd said :grrrr: Basically great work everyone! nice to see roughs wips and ideas being posted and Thanks Mahran for commenting and keeping things going while I'm not around (life is being busy and I urgently need to work at the moment)

Mahran - great piece dude - really clean lines and plenty of action. Would like to see a little more tension between SpideyWoman and Venom - she seems to be sitting on his leg quite calmly!

MoHog - 0.o Yikes! as I said before I'm not into Vamp/Zombie stuff but you got great action and viewpoint! I can't really crit it other than I'm unsure how they are collaborating to beat a villain or save citizens?... lol

Asatira - I gotta agree with Mahran - some great ideas there and Is see a lot of potential in your work!

Mx3 - Sweet sketch dude! the Dynamism between Spidey and Croc is working great but be careful Bat doesn't get tangled with Spidey - kinda looks like Spidey's gonna get right in between Bat n Croc. I'm excited to see the finished piece!

Mahran, 7artist7: Thanks for the opinions. As you can see, did a few more thumbs. It took a little bit but I gradually shifted from the two figures, Spider-man and Batgirl, to adding an opponent. I kinda like the Rhino fight thumbs.

pretty much done here i think, i looked at doing a comic cover or adding in some frames but they both took too much from the original image. Hope this is ok and the threat they are combating can be insinuated...

Asatira: really like the thumbs, cool to see how your process works. spidey/batgirl v rhino would be great, especially their lithe fragile frames against the sheer bulk and gristle - looking forward to the line-work

Mx3: great combo there, i would reposition bats as Artist7 says maybe from a different angle to add more depth. good stuff tho

Hey guys - just to let yall know I'm still alive! Agh I have just had stuff to do that's taken up all my spare time for this! Great job everyone - rockin on without me - can't wait to see all the finals! :bounce: ... I'm going to try to do something between tonight and the end of tomorrow deadline - it'll be quick, loose, quite probably crazy and possibly will work out :painting: :anime: should be fun!

Doing a comic page for the next challenge sounds good but remember these are dynamic energy challenges and that's the main focus - sounds like some pretty epic comic pages to me! Push yourselves to the limit peoples - The job I'm working on is my first go at full comic pages so have been doing a bunch of research into layout and ..dude! ... all the great comics are bursting at the seems with super dynamic art! Whether I have the time to take part fully or not it sounds great!

The7Artist7: Look forward to seeing what you come up with. And I do agree that while a sequential challenge would be nice, it's nice to keep the focus confined to dynamics. Besides, POW will get up and running again, so it might be best to leave sequentials there.

Man, I think I'm in love with the process as much as the final image. I keep posting WIPs. More focused pencils. Will ink today or tomorrow, but things are busy, so may be a final if push comes to shove.

This is gonna have to be my final piece. i didn't have time to finish it and had to rush most parts as you can see. also didn't realise there had to be 2 heroes lol so I added cat women.

Everyone- Thanx for the kind words and i took the crit about the bat into mind and changed him, pity i've had too much on my plate to put real hours into this but i hope you like it all the same ^.^

Ok peoples - been madly working on this - scrapped the rough ideas as just wasn't feeling them enough and only had a few hours! :^^;:

This is really only the middle panel of 3 (would work best with 4+ panels for what I have in mind!) Spidey is trying to web the pilot who's ejector seat has failed catastrophically - Batman (or if longer strip - Batgirl, to add to the tension as she would be unused to flying the Batwing) is flying in with the Batwing to harpoon the wreckage that's hurtling towards the city and tow it to a safe place to drop. This kind of idea would work for a Comic page challenge but I'm unsure if I have the time for it... we'll have to see!
