I'm considering using this style for my editorial portfolio. The portfolio pieces will be cleaner and more dynamic. I figure I'll do the line work in Illustrator and color it in Photoshop. What do you think? Thanks. (btw, no tracing was involved, lol)

Nice. Seems like a style that could work for editorial and ad stuff pretty well. I wanna see what a more elaborate piece would look like, just to see how well your approach holds up in various situations.
When you draw it in illustrator, do you make outlines of your major shapes, or just a very basic drawing? Also, have you ever tried to render it in painter? If you did, you could have your linework on separate layers from your shapes. Might be useful. I don't know.
Again, good piece. Can't wait to see more!

Very well done. If you're using photoshop filters, please don't. :) It's very good look-a-like.

This worries me a little, I didn't use filters, does it look like I did? I actually painted this with an online applet painter this kid Marcello designed, which has no filters of any kind, it's just for painting. Maybe I should start blending? Blending will make this look flat though..what should I do? Thanks.

It doesn't look like a filter. Instead of blending, I'd use rougher edges to blend the colors. You get modulation, but in a graphic kind of way more appropriate to this piece. I'd also try and see what it'd look like with more detail in the shadow on his right side. The big brown shape kinda stands out right now, and you probably want people to look at the face more. This is all really picky, but you have to be when the piece is this solid. Great job!

That style would work nice for Editorial work... and no, I don't think it looks like you used filters. My favorite part is probably the thick outline for his head that fades into and becomes parts of the shadow. It's really nice.... do you plan on adding any back ground at all? Something would be nice back there... even if it's just some lighter blue color fields or something to help not let the eye get bored.
