View Full Version : what zoom view size do you paint at?

A colorist told me at a convention one time there was no point in zooming in really close to color because at actual print size the human eye couldn't pick up those really small details that you did when zoomed at 300-600% etc.

Is this true? I always wondered about this, and if I wasted my time messing around working on something zoomed in really close up.

Is there a normal view size people use for coloring, so they don't spend alot of time rendering what you can't see?

Is it view/ print size? Is that all you need?

Thanks in advance for any advice on this. If its been covered somewhere and you remember it please post me a link.

I generally work a little larger than what I would present it at on the web, because people can and do notice small things.

However, zooming in 300-600% is probably unnecessary. I'd say don't go over 150% for most things unless you are doing something that really requires a lot of precise work.

I'd rather work at a maximum of 100% on a 4000 pixel wide image than 200% on a 2000 pixel wide image. If you need more detail up the resolution.

Usually between 150% and 200% for details.
