It's looking really solid right now.

A suggestion would be to try to reduce the number of strokes you use. It gets a sort of stiff, chicken-scratchy look if you concentrate too much on details at first.

I'd also make the shadowy areas darker, to help give it depth and to show which objects are seperate. At the moment, the helm is blending a bit into the area behind it.

I'd try to give it some dramatic/harsh lighting like in the portraits form The Renaissance, with a dark, moody background- but that's just a suggestion.

Good work.

I think it's looking wonderful! If you pulled his cloak off his right arm and had it fall from his shoulder instead I think the shape of his arm exiting the main mass would engage the space more interestingly. But it also depends on where you will go, if he has just been from a battle and will be a bit dirty and worn then the sort of frumpy bunching on that side could be a nice accent for that.

Hey, thanks guys! It's good to hear some feedback. I'll definately be considering the dramatic/harsh lighting approach and the battle worn cloak suggested by Velo. Thanks again!

i really like where this is going so far, awesome strokes. I would suggest keeping an open mind about how an interesting background could affect the figure itself - it has a lot of potential to be pushed further by its surroundings.
