heh, english isn't my first language, so I didn't know the meaning of prom, so I did a little search. here is it, I prefer the second definition ;)

prom :n. A formal dance held for a high-school or college class typically at or near the end of the academic year.
[Short for promenade.]
--------------------------------------------------------------------

PROM n. Computer Science Memory hardware that can be programmed only once.
[p(rogrammable) r(ead-)o(nly) m(emory).]

I've been playing Pit Fighter recently. I think it influenced the insanity of my picture.

I suppose he's a sandworm. I'll draw his date in a moment.

hey take it easy commanderObvious ... it's just a joke and I think he/she does know that ... so no offence meant and hopefully no offence taken

That's okay if anybody here doesn't know what a prom date is, I didn't get one so you'll have to do like me and use your imagination...

...here's what I imagine her expression would be like if she found out I was her date at the last second...

speaking of last second, I'm up at 4 am doing this and I don't think I'll stay up another second to finish it. Besides, this is called the "Daily SKETCH Group," right?
http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v83/Russell_Collins/DailySketchBook/DSG366_PromDate.jpg

sorry about that first comment, it was supposed to be lightheartedly humorous but I suppose without making that "obvious" ;) it could be taken wrongly. My bad. I was teasing, that's all, no harm intended...

(for the record, it is a Prom 'Date', not a turd in a dress)

This is my first DSG.. First post ever, actually. This is pretty much what I looked like in high school, but I wore a tux to prom. Heh. About 40 minutes or so in Painter.

http://img30.photobucket.com/albums/v90/gealflings/punkprom.jpg

guns1inger: I'm SO glad you clarified the whole date/turd thing. :D

commander obvious: Great facial expression. For some reason, I really like the way her glasses match her dress.

hagac: Awesome! I love the drooling hands. :D

We don't have Proms in the UK - when I saw the topic, I thought of CA.org's favourite panty samurai, Prometheus ANJ, so my pic is kind of inspired by his stuff. Prom's date.

I doubt I'll get a chance to finish this today, so here it is after about an hour. Good work all, especially Commander Obvious!

Toinjoints - cool. I like this one a lot.
Matt - is her right leg off? The way you have the knee to the side and the foot facing looks incorrect to me. And darn it, I want to see her face!
Geaflings - that's what you looked like? Me too! (ahem...just kidding)
Commander Obvious & Hagac - love it!!!! Both great and clever (in different ways obviously)

Wonderful ideas here and I love them. Great work!

Quick one from a couple refs i found on google. The main thing I remember from my prom was the goofy ass dancing... and there were lots of mullets.

This was a fast one, about 10-15 minutes in PS 6.

Hagac - I love the bold outlines. I can practically feel their leathery skin. :)

Bluedreamer - Try using colored shadows instead of black. If you're using PS, try using multiply for a start.

gekitsu - Soh cute

Hey, heres my sketch 4 today. I've just started using photoshop/painter, but doing these sketches every day has already helped me to get more familiar with the programs.

This pic was actually what my prom date wore that day. He thought it would be cute if him and his buddy rented the most God awful tuxes for the prom. That, or this was all that was left...I hated that damn dickie with the ruffles. :P

Commander obvious: so much detail, did you use painter for that? What brushes did you use? Awsome job!

Swan: I love your sketch, quck, but full of life, great job!

You know what's funny? I recognize a lot of people (vaguely) in the faces and outfits of the people that have been drawn here. I can't decide if that's good for the sake of humor or if all my friends are complete nerds... :P :D

Anyhoo, yes Tiger_Lily, I used painter 7 from start to finish. My favorite brushes might not be the best way to go (very time-consuming if you're not fast) but they are very simple. I use the digital airbrush and the palatte knife. I've used other tools and had good results, but for my purposes, these are still the fastest and most direct. I use keyboard shortcuts for the eye-dropper tool constantly so I can get colors to match from layer to layer too.

buz: I love puns (perhaps a bit too much) but P.R.O.M.? Whew! I didn't want to go there because all my friends who look like the geeks in this thread would disown me. A few of my friends have actually managed to hack the PROM in their cars' computers (not that kind of prom in the car illy). They used to use PC RAM sticks for keychains (RAM that they'd burned out in their youth as hackers trying to get THAT much more speed out of a K5 or something only recently made primative).

bluedreamer: is that a photo-referenced image? If so, look harder at the colors in the faces.

Matt, gekitsu: panty samurai named Prometheus ANJ?? :O I must have missed that one. Sounds like a terrible title for a Rainbow Six sequel :P

Favorites so far: buz because I'm woefully fond of puns, and illy because I'm also woefully fond of the phrase "well, off like a prom dress."

Phew! Managed to finish her off after all.

http://www.vortex.plus.com/PromDate.jpg

Gekitsu - Hoorah for panties! Yours is more Prom than mine.
Swan - You could be right about the leg, though the profile is less lumpy now, which helps a bit I think. Let's just say those heels are uncomfortable, so she's standing awkwardly... ;)

Too tired for more comments, but well done all!

I thought I would take a stab at the shallowness of the "loss of innocence" that happens to a lot of teens at Prom. I lost mine much earlier, so I never had to go to prom and didn't...

Pencil sketch then two hours in photoshop with my non-tablet (mouse). Really trying do some more color studies, but with no references, it's all in my head.
http://www.shawnadomanis.com/dsg/dsg366.jpg

Hagac - Those are a great take on the subject.
Commander Obvious - Very well done. I love the eyes. If you would have given her a shadow on the ground, it would have made it much more. It looks like she is floating.
gekitsu - Very nice assshot there buddy. hah. Nice, soft style.
Swan - Wow. I love this sketch. I am assuming that this is Dorothy? Any references used? Great work.
Railboy - Well done, as usual. But how is this Prom related? Just wondering.
Matt Dixon - You make it all look so damn easy! Very cute and well done prom date. I agree with Swan about the leg though. But is it HER right leg or the PICTURE'S right leg? I would say it's the picture's. It just looks as if it should be moved a few pixels to the left (Picture's left). Great work as always.
ducktape - Good style change. The braces are a hoot. Unless you were going for the Matrix look, you did forget the earpieces for the glasses though.
jook - Be my valentine, baby. Cute.
RefrigeratorCo - Schwing!
riq - Very nice style. Norman Rockwell meets quick, sketch painting.
Shelldragon - Wow. Very passionate. Check mine, it's the "expensive prostitute" in your sketch.
Sapphire - Wow. I love this one. I would say one of my favorites. It reminds me of the 50s fashion sketches.
Jack Frost - That is just so damn cool. Good take.
Hush - Subtle and elegant. Great lighting too. Marriage and kids are right around the corner.

Til tomorrow...

Shadowman - Well, I HAVE been reading Wicked lately (Gregory Maquire, great book) so I probably had munchkins a bit on the brain, but honestly, I was more thinking along the lines of Snow White. I did use a reference for the young lady.
