these are very interesting, are you drawing from life or reference, it seems like your using both. I like them keep it up.

2kre8-
sk2 is from reference and life. the back is from a yoga book. these are great references for anatomy. i think it's called The Art of Yoga and it's filled with nice big black and white photos. i need to draw from it more.

sk3 has a quick study of a Steve Houston painting called the cement mixer. it's the one on the far right in the middle. the legs are mine in the mirror at a gym.

sk4 is one of my favorite sketches. it's from a photo in a book of portraits of native americans. I'm part native american and i find myself drawn to these books.

sk5 is just another doodle page.

sk6 is a few different things. quick bridgeman necks, my own fist, a quick self portrait on the top left and the rest are no reference.

sk9 has a hand from a crazy photograpy book i have on dimented figures.

sk10 is my friend while driving an rv
sk11 has a drawing of another friend on the top right. the rest of the eyes are from a venderpoehl(sp?) book.

sk12 has another yoga sketch and the face is from a magazine photo.

anything else are no reference and just messing around.

if you notice, sk10 and sk11 are both charcoal and sk12 is a mechanical pencil, the rest are all ball point pen.

thanks for your comment

JackalAnubis~

thanks man. I should have another update this evening so check back. right now i'm just scanning in the two sketchbooks i use. the sketches up now are from the past few months. i'll start getting to more current ones tonight or monday. us Alumni have to represent, right?

i was at the dentist office and sketched some of their tools... dentist offices and optometrists have some kool stuff to sketch... and on the left is a quick study of a kevin chen figure work.

self-portrait of me at the dentist getting a couple cavities filled and another surfer magazine pic.

this next group of surfers i actually did without reference and tried to use any knowledge i had gained from those prior studies... trying to see if i could come up with my own realistic poses.

this was actually a double page sketch i did for a thunderdome. it was the one that you had to come up with creatures that looked like they belonged in another artist's(i can't remember his name) world, the one that got cancelled.

i think you've got a really nice hand and your value structure in drawings for the most part is very good, and you come out with a nice sense of light, even in unfinished drawings (the thunder dome one) but i think you're taking that bridgeman, "body as geometric forms" school of thought ( sk's 5,7,8, anatomy study) too far. the forms tend to get too geometric and blocky, which starts to lead to abstraction, and all sortsa other things you don't want if you're drawing from life. if you are reading/studying from bridgeman, i'd say to back off of that and (even though it sounds cliche) see if you can find this book called "lessons from michealangelo" its an amazing text.

I had to do it. Leap Year only comes around four years, so I actually waited until today just to put these up.

Here's a few figure sketches i've had around... i took some pics and decided to put them up in response to siskol p's post.

MCM~
thanks, man. keep coming back cuz i'm gonna keep posting stuff.

siskol p~
you're right. i like bridgeman and his thoughts on anatomy. i spend a lot of time studying from his books. but remember, this is just a sketchbook and most of the ones you're talking about were without reference. as for the anatomy crit, i'm assuming you're talking about the torso at the top. i was working on "gridding" out the anatomy so i could understand it better, so i was working one the geometric forms on purpose. thanks for the comments and for the critique, i'd definitely rather hear people's honest opinion then just praise. you definitely had valid observations...

i'll definitely try and find that book, though.

so without further delay...

i always see people drawing four armed humanoids and the muscles didn't seem right... they always looked kind of funny... i believe that the back muscles would have to be built for four arms.i tried sketching out what i thought it should look like, but i don't think i pulled it off. this is something i'm gonna come back to later on.

Jackal...

thanks, man, i appreciate it. this sketchbook definitely motivates me to keep working. as for the figure drawing it was from 11am - 330pm, minus breaks and lunch. by the way, i'm doing another piece of artwork for the Knights of Pallas for ghq. it's slowly coming around.

here's a new sketchpage from yesterday with a couple detail shots.

hey everyone... sorry for missing my friday update... that is if you even care. my scans were to big to email and got returned back to the office. i actually tried emailing all of them at once, so i'm the idiot....

MCM-
thanks for the comment... the guy with the dreadlocks is actually ziggy marley from an add for his new album.

Mr. SEBSPREK!!!
wow, you grace us with your presence. i thought you abandoned the boards like senor louie. i think you should start a sketchbook, it's actually really motivated me because i feel obligated to keep posting. you can start with that sketch of aiden or maybe even "kool kat". ahahahhaha.
thanks for the comment and i'll try.

without further delay here's my most recent addition.

the first one is just some randomness...
http://home.san.rr.com/emptyart/images/sketchbook/sk48.jpg

this is just a quick character design i did last thursday. i suck at weapons and mech stuff so i'm trying to incorporate more in my sketches just for the practice.
http://home.san.rr.com/emptyart/images/sketchbook/sk49.jpg

this last one is a ninja for the concept challenge that sinix started.
Concept challenge (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19912)

i did this during my lunch and afternoon break at work today. again, not satisfied with the mech arm. actually not really satisfied with the whole thing. i might try and rework this at sometime and really get that arm hashed out.

MCM~
thanks, man. i'm happy with that alien character, just not with his rifle. like i said, one of my week points. that's why i'm trying to work on firearms and mechanical stuff more.

Mr. Sebsprek...
we meet again. was that a racial statement... calling me lazy and all. just kidding. man, don't worry about concept art... just start a sketchbook to drawer, man. i knows you know how to draw. thanks for them comments.

DTO~
thanks for compliment. i'm going to enjoy tha vs. thread just cuz it's going with someone else's idea nad running with it. a little artistic problem solving is good practice.

well, here's my new updates...

first, a quick hashing out of the ninja arm i did for the concept challenge.
http://home.san.rr.com/emptyart/images/sketchbook/sk50b.jpg

next is just a random sketch page...

close up of the light bulb head guy....

nice works empty. Your sketches remind me of mine alot (of course they're different, but similar). Light bulb head is great and dem figures is sexy. If you want to learn mecha look at sammy's threads (if you have'nt already) and the honda robot Asimo - helped me alot.:chug:

thanks, man... the paper bag was just a spur of the moment decision. we were drinking wine during the workshop and i grabbed a bag that one of the bottles was in. i like the way it came out, too.
i'm still working on the project for GHQ. send me a PM with your email and i'll send you an example of what i'm working on. i really don't want to post it on the boards.

Steak-tron~
thanks for the comments and thoughts on where to look for mech. i've actually been trying to find more construction vehicles. i like the idea of really heavy duty machinary. i checked out your website and i can see a few similarities with a few sketches.
