I think its beautiful. I recognize it from the lord of the rings, tom bombadill(?) who never made it to the movies.. very nice lighting. only thing that came to mind was that tom's posing is kinda stiff.

great job.

....Arh cool...

This is from the bit in LOTR when they come across the Barrow Wights???

This is a more refreshing piece of work detailing the LOTR. Sometimes I find theres too many drawings relating only to Elves and Orcs, and it can get boring.

I love your work Chris, the colours and detail are beautiful!

Keep it up, I'd love to see more!!!

Thanks again folks.
Liquid, I hear you loud and clear on that comment about Tom. I have to confess, painting all that (illusion of)transparency (the beams of light) using opaque colors became quite a nightmare, and most of the complex parts of it were right where Tom is. It became very difficult to approach the Tom figure with any kind of fluidity, because I was really painting separate pieces and trying to make them fit together, if you know what I mean. The resulting stiffness has always bothered me too.

Now that I'm not so burned out on it I'd go back and try to fix it, but you know with traditional media that's always such a risk... and I'm a wimp.

I did the "beams of light thing" in my first or second foray into digital painting, which I'll post in a bit. Needless to say that part at least was much easier to manage with digital.

Cycrincy: I love the books too, but to be honest I'm a bit reluctant to keep illustrating scenes from them because I'm afraid the imagery (characters, etc.) from the movies will become so ingrained in people's minds that no one will want to look at other possibilities anymore. Tolkien has always been my favorite subject matter, because he seems to conjur up clear images in my mind even though his writing isn't really all that detailed or literally descriptive.
