Hi gang. I have read a couple of articles lately (one in the New York Times) about large entertainment agencies representing People who make video games. I have looked in to this and it seems they only rep directors and writers. What's a video game without great concept art? What kind of games would we have if they were made by just writers and directors?!

Does anyone know of any established talent agencies or representatives that is handling video game industry concept artists?

Thanks, Tristan

good question. Wrong section. The only thing I've heard about recruiting agencies is bad things about recruiting agencies. Not only do they screw the artist, but they screw developers too. Being attached to an agent may give your career leprosy. I could be wrong. This field is still evolving and shifting.

I met Donato Giancola and he told me that having an illustration agent when he was first starting helped him a lot. He wasn't doing concept art, but agents aren't necessarily cancer.

Usually agents don't want you when you need them and you don't need them anymore when they want you.
Most game companies use recruiters which are the same as an agent for inhouse workers. You are better off on your own as a freelancer unless you can afford the 20 to 25 percent most agents take.

Hi~

I went through few agencies and my current agency is VonChurch. There are two others but their names escapes me at the moment. They rep programmers, 3D artists, concept artists. But, they only take on people who has a track record and is industry veteran. I think they tend to shy away from new peeps - anyway, the game companies pay them to recruit so you don't pay the agency and they don't collect from you. I got connected with Westwood in Las Vegas through VonChurch but Westwood went through another agency to find someone with the style I have. Maybe I scared them away. lol

Remember act professional and not be too aggressive.

Good luck!
