hi ther, im new here. i was recently trying to take up a new technique but im simply going nowhere. im trying to learn how to hatch can some one plz give me some tips and tell me what kinda pencil they use for it.. thanks in advance

There is basically 2 types of hatching, there is just hatching and there is cross hatching cross hatching is //\\\ over lapping each other. Hatching mostly used for shadows.

I suck at hatching; never could do it well. That in mind, it's a good idea to try to have your hatch marks follow the form of the object. For example, if the object is a ball, you'll want your marks to suggest the roundness of it. It helps add dimensionality.

Well.. I've been told that I'm decent at it.. and I didn't even realize I was doing it...

But what I did was just imagine the shape of the object I'm shading and then just draw lines that reflect that shape... then I switch up the direction of the strokes.. and repeat, darkening in areas and whatnot.
