Hi everyone,
This is a piece based on living dead celtic warriors going back to their cairn, (tunnel tomb).
HI again this is a update after looking at all your very encouraging comments on this piece of work. In the space of a few days I've learned a lot about tangents composition and contrast that will be great insights into the next artworks I start
I want to thank you all very much for your feed back over te last week.
I know perfection doesn't exist but I wanted to make this illustration as clear as possible in terms of comp that I embarked on some fnal changes. I worked on the original pencils so the living dead head's to the left is smaller.
Bye for now.
John

wow McCambridge this is good, I like the detail in the armor and swords, but the thing that strikes me the most is the way your eye just follows everything around the whole drawing in one big circle, great composition.

I hope this doesn't sound cliched and new-agey but, "nice energy!!" I love it.

very gangster pencil work sir, i must say. the pictoral space gets good the further you go back into the landscape (the figures getting blurrier etc.) but it starts to get "the same" when you get to the front, i'd say to punch the values on the lower left guy even more just to make that depth in the space, that much more apparent, but thats about the only criticism i've got for you. the rest is hot.
take care

I dont know a drawing form a squirel... but will say this. very nice drawing, the sepia-ness is great. I have one little crit. I think it could use a little compositional adjustment, because the focus (for me) goes to the empty space in the middle. Or to the back of the center figure's head. I bet you could fix this with the paint job, though.

Thanks for all your constructive comments. I've retouched the image, taking into account some of you remarks and if I get the ftp up I'll post the new version. I agree with the fore ground figures being both present it means the eye is pulled between the two and doesn't, as i intended, start off at the left figure.
Seee ya all Later and thanks again

I really like this one, John. I think the action is clear, and I love the design of armours and weapons. :chug:
Perhaps you could increase the contrast between the front figures and the background.

I like your line quality very much. The only comment I would make is that you have an unfortunate tangent situation with the horns of the character on the left touching the shield of the person behind him. I suppose if you just gave that horn some extra curl to move the tip away somewhat. I am always drawn to tangents like that and try to avoid them whenever possible. I didn't notice the tomb entrance until you mentioned it in your writeup, partially because of the focus of that tangent.
All in all, very nicely drawn.

nice work with the retouching, the white on the helmet vs. that black really does it for the contrast, kudos to you man, she looks great
