I have been drawing as a hobby since I was in 5th grade. I'm not all that great but sometimes I'll impress myself. Since finding this site about a year ago I have started sketching again.

The main problem I have been having is with shading; I just can't seem to grasp the concept of it. I've never had any formal training so everything is self taught through either experience or books.

I have ran searches across the net and searched here as well but I have been so far fruitless.

Does someone have any links to any tutorials?

I started the FredFlickstone Head1 tutorial and got all the way to just before the shading part but stopped because I didn't want to ruin it. (I actually impressed myself ;) )

Any help would be appreciated.

One of the rules of drawing is not too be afraid to continue.. If you want to learn to shade you cant stop drawing a pic because you dont want to ruin it. If you can draw this once then you can do it again.. maybe some attempts and all but training is the only thing you can do..

I had the same problem. What you need to do is just practice. You just need to get comfortable shading your pictures. And don't worry about ruining it shading. The first couple of pictures you shade, your not going to get the results that you want. Though, try hard on every picture that you shade.
