He is at Ringling this week and I was just watching a demo of his.
Holy .... Quite frankly... this guy is amazing. His websites are not at ALL indicative of his ability.

Other than the demo, he had ten sketchbooks with him that we were allowed to leaf through.
I don't think I still quite grasp how awesome the things within were. And that is only 1/8 of his
entire sketchbook collection that he has finished in the past... four years.

So if your judging by his website... well think again.

I don't think so. Unless Kevin has scanned them himself and plans on updating his website, he hasn't let them out of his sight.

i learned more watching him draw and listening to him share some of his experiences after the demo than i have in school this semester. he's the real thing, nice guy too.

a sketchbook of his callabor is probably priceless to the artist.

The hand made "portfolio" books on his website are about $1000.
But I agree... the sketchbooks are priceless. I mean... even the book he sells are just prints.

Look people, Kevin is a good artist and everything, but he's not god. He is a guy who just worked hard for what he has and what he does. No more, no less. I talked with him briefly during one of the breaks in his figure demo and asked what he thought about all the hero worship he had been getting. He laughed and said that it's silly, and that people just need to do their own thing and become great at it. And it wasnt till after he told me that that I realized 75% of the people there that were drawing were trying to replicate his style. As I was leaving I overheard one kid going "Did you hear that? he uses a bic mechanical pencil! thats what I use!"

Hey, for those of you who really want to copy his style, he mainly uses 2b lead, sometimes 4b, and rarely Hb and 6b. Get a life

But what was even worse was when I saw him at this party, he was surrounded by kids showing him their work trying to get a critique. Come on now, just get a drink, say hi to the dude, and chill.

OK,I'm nearly out of time, so lets review: Kevin is a dude. What he's accomplished is great, but their are greater things to be had out their, and he can't have it all. you have to go out there and do your own thing and be the best at it. because if you keep on trying to be a copy cat artist, guess what: you will never land a job because a client will always hire the person who does the work better. Also, the hero-worship needs to come to an end. When all you do is kiss someone's ass like that you come off as being a dilettante and your professionalism suffers. And for god's sakes, quit copying Kev's drawings into your own sketchbooks and calling them "master copies". It makes you come off like you don't know that during the past hundreds of years, there have been better artists who do way more amazing things than Kevin. Go to a museum and copy a Velasquez or a Sargent.

But i´m can´t wait to see him, and the other "gods" arround here working.
I´ve to say that i´m politeist (i don´t know if this is the word to say that i believe in many gods) I believe in velazquez, sorolla, sargent, frazetta,........

Nothing wrong with having people who inspire you, but yeah.. fanboy-ism is a bit like Michael Jackson and Elvis impersinators.. who takes those seriously?

All I know is that it takes a lot of work and a bit of talent as well to become really really good, but most of all, originality! And you won't get that from copying people.

Hm... I think someone mentioned beer right? Nice going there, now I want a beer... :p
