Greetings,

I've posted this concept on Francis' forum but I thought I might post it here as well.

Inspired by Formula 1 cars of the 1950's and by German experimental and prototype aircraft of WWII, this is a pen and marker concept, and the first in a series.

I'm doing this for a personal project (my own 'universe' you might say-it's been a whie since I've had the opportunity to concept for myself)....Comments and criticism are of course welcome. :)

Cheers
Grant

Excellent work, very professional looking. Hard to believe such great colors could be done with markers! Great technical explanations and everything too, can't wait to see the rest of the 'series'.

Thanks guys for the feedback...I will definitely keep you all posted...just trying to do the usual '5 things at once' at the moment...

How I achieved the effect using markers? I used standard 110 gram sketchpad paper, which has moderate absorption properties with minimal grain and bleeding. For markers, I use the Copic range: In this image I initially placed down a layer of Cool Greys, C1 and C2. You can easily build up the 'depth' and intesity by successive layers. Then I built intensity, reflection, and shadow using layers of the darker C4 and C6.

Don't be afraid to layer. I try to obtain a 'metallic sheen' by layering the greys with light blues, B00 or BG02, particularly where you might get a reflective sheen or shadow.

Warm highlights using the Warm Greys: W2, W4. Again this is a layer over the cool grey base.

Thanks again!

Sort of ChenZan, at least I half-completed my industrial design degree when the opportunity arose for a full-time concepting position 2 years ago. It's on indefinite hold :)
