ole!!!!!

So i want to do a VS. theread kinda like what Form_n_focus and Winjer started.

anyone up for the challenge?

oh and since you need to post an image or something to make a thread valid, here's one:

Edit: hmm. posting image to validate thread not required here? oh well.

also
Administrator: Hows about making a seperate sub-catagory (kinda like the Daily Sketchbook category) for just VS. threads?

I'm interested in doing anything to improve my skills. Then again, I'm not sure what kinda content this will be going for or anything. Pretty much a DSG with 2 people? At any rate, I'll be willing to do whatever, so I'm game? If you want.

Hello. I am just posting to say go at it! This "VS" thread as it seems to be now gaining some momentum around here, is a fun thing and a motivating thing as long as both parties continue to post the topics regularly! Me and Kental McNasty are now involved in one and I am finding it quite useful and different! SO more power to you, and whoever finally decides to join you in the battle! So good luck and happy drawing!

Sinix - i guess the diference with the VS. and the DSG is that the VS. is more personal and there is more of an obligation to stick with it. You know the other guy is counting on you.

contentwise it's pretty open ended. I prefer something dealing with still lifes abd landscapes. that seems to be the hardest to commit myself to. But i'm up for anything.

just one favor: post some werk so i can see what i'm up against.

Snowball - once i saw your VS thread and Winjer's i knew that this was going to spread like wildfire. keep on rocking and you'll see improvement in no time

So are you two going to go at it or what?! lol Come on start up your VS thread!:D

AmishCommy

i don't want to be an asshole but i feel that bhuddistmonk is a bit out of my league. I'll be happy to do a VS. against you bhuddistmonk to improve your skills but i don't know if i'll benefit from it. Its up to you. I'll try it for a bit and I'll let you know if I want to continue.

as for Sinix- i din't get any replies from you. waht does your werk look like? i'll do one with you as well since you asked first.

just a little side note: i'm trying to do some new werk to show next week at the megacon in orlando so i may take some time to start anything up.

Oh sorry, guess I lost track of this thread. Hmm.. lemme see, some of my work... I've been drawing for like a year a half, mainly interested in comic-type stuff, but I have been trying to brush up on my realism the past week.

example of a full colored work:

just random sketching in my sketchbook I did yesterday:

Don't know what you'll be aiming for.

Sinix - i like your sketches (colors are not too shabby): they need werk (anatomy mainly) but they look like they have some life to them.

You're on if you want to rock the VS. theread.

my aim is to get my ass drawing more. I have a tendency to draw faces alot. I'm looking to improve my drawings of people interacting. I'm also dying to do some oils (landscapes)

if you want i'll let you start the topic.

:chug: Ahh, ok.. I still am not sure of all the ins and outs. Is it any medium goes? All I've seen in the other threads are just eye studies, hand studies, things of that nature. Don't know how creative or different you wanna go, but I'll try whatever I can. I'd prefer if you got it rolling so I can have a feel for it all.

sic8sic - if you say so.

maybe my ego is too big but unlike bhuddistmonk I've been drawing for well over 10 years. I've gone to school and studied the foundations for over 8 years. I still have a long way to go but i am more than confident in my skills so far.

Sinix - i just woke up (sunday is my only free day) but as soon as i get rolling, i'll post a chalange

maybe its just me then, i really dont have confidence in my art...but i know i try my best...

the lack of confidence is good only if you strive to improve. it can be bad if it prevents yuo from improving

Sinix - sorry dude! i forgot my card reader at werk so i cant post the little painting i did for the battle until tomorrow. I did a still life of a banana, apple and plum. i did it in oil and it was not finished. only werked about an hour on it. I still need a ton of practice in oils so that's why i did it in oils. I'd prefer we werk on something from life for our VS. thread. I'm gonna attept to do it all in oils so that i get some practice. It's up to you what you want to use. anything is fine with me. Maybe if i find some more time today i'll do a quick digital sketch as my first submission.

bhuddistmonk - your self-portrait in your thread looks like the potential is there. just keep werking on it. I feel that i got better by pushing myself. I did so by telling myself that i can always do better. i still do. I guess it's a way of telling myself that I suck. (i tend to do that from time to time)

anyways, on to the Battle.
Sinix, Here's my first battle topic:
man do i suck. oil kicks my ass every time.

http://www.arkadyroytman.com/drop/StudioJournal/2004_-_02-29a.jpg

and photographing it is a bitch too

ooh YEAH!!!! its on now!!!! Bring it

Heh.. well.. I took the chance to give my hand a quick workout in photoshop.. I just whipped up a quick small sketch in my sketchbook, realism is still a weakspot.
http://img5.photobucket.com/albums/v14/Sinix/dsb030104a.jpg

Then splashed the color in with photoshop. It still just looks like a sketch, but oh well, something new.
http://img5.photobucket.com/albums/v14/Sinix/dsb030104b.jpg

Umm.. hmm.. I guess I'm supposed to make a subject, it will probably be something related to landscape/setting, because that's something I should work at. I'll figure something out.

Sinix - Nice colors. did you reference it or was it strait out of your head? Next time try to avoid keeping the outlines. I bet the studies would be more dynamic if you used tone and value versus outlines

I'm sorry I blew a day.. I guess the time got away from me, hopefully I won't let that happen much anymore. Anyway, yea, I see what you mean about the lines.. I used some references to get the apple going right, didn't need any for the banana.. but bananas are pretty straightforward. Well, I guess you could say the topic I went with is just that of a grassy field, or grass-related landscape... mainly because it generally gives me trouble.. and I think it kinda beat me up a bit.. but I was also working on my speedpainting, which isn't a strong spot. Anyway, I look forward to seeing you create some good looking grass.

Sinix, i'm SOOOOO sorry dude! I just cant find the time to paint some grass. I took some photos yesterday as a last resort. I was hoping to paint from life. I'f i cant do that tomorrow i'll invoke the photoref. once again sorry for being a slacker.
