My girlfriend's father's personal hero is Ken Dryden, a legendary goalie from the Habs. So I made him this statue as a gift.
I haven't sculpted in years and the last statue I made got negative feedback. In my opinion Ken Dryden is the best thing I ever made. So I hope you guys like it.
I wish I could make molds...
Let me know your thoughts!

Woa- awesome gift. I admit that I know less about sculpture than I would like and find myself very intrigued by this.
Does it stand on its own?
I can't offer any criticisms on this and I apologize, but I was wondering what you used to make it?

Hey,
Sculpture is a lot of fun, I feel as though the final results are always more rewarding and exciting for me. Sometimes I think I might be better off doing sculpture then painting.
However, it is not at all as scary as it seems. What you need to do is go to an art store and grab a box of Super Sculpey, and some hard but bednable wire. I used copper wires on this one. Make the copper wires into a skeleton shape, cover that in tin foil to save sculpey, and then your armature is done. Sculpt over it, and then bake it.
I can't reccomend it enough.
And yea, it stands on its own, but when I presented it to my gf's father I had it glued onto a wooden plank.
I am hoping to hear more thoughts from you guys.
Is the lack of responce due to the boring subject matter or does it have to do with the poor quality of the sculpt?
I would really appreciate some feedback

Pavel, your sculpt is very good, so don't doubt yourself. Seems like a lot of people look at our work on this forum, but very, very few ever comment. It is very disappointing when you work so hard on something and then you don't even get a nod of approval from your peers. I joined this forum so I could connect with other artists, because I am a recluse, and I don't really want to be, but other than a few faithful commenters it really is rather disappointing. I don't know what it is, maybe the time of year, or something. I posted something last night that I thought everyone would like, but not one responce.
I don't think that this is the place to connect after all, too bad, because I liked it, and the people I met here. Maybe I expect too much from other artists, but it galls me when I do an art show and people just move in herds past your tent without saying one nice thing, is it them or is it my work? I have always had too high expectations.
Anyway, your piece is good and I bet her father really loved it! Good job.

Hey guys!
I am really flattered by the comments, and so happy this sculpt is a success.
I have a hard time getting positive comments on my paintings here, so maybe sculpting is more my thing.
HEY, DO YOU GUYS KNOW ANY WAY TO MAKE THE GOALIE STICK?
I tried cutting it out of cardboard and painting it, but it brings the sculpt down. whats the proper way ot make one?

Pavel, try this, go to a hobbie store an buy a balsa wood airplane. You can cut out your stick with an exacto knife and paint it up. Might work.

Dont know if you ever made it around to makin gthe stick but another thing you could try would be plasticard. Or heck, why not make the basic shape out of Sculpey and then sand it to shape after? I dont have any experience with Sculpey so I have no clue if that would work.

Well sculpey is really soft, so it would just basically be a big fat noodle.
I never got around to making the stick because I am lazy and dug up an old Troll sculpt and a monster cyborg bust I started back in 2005. So I was working on that along with a really big digital painting (its in the critique section right now, its based on metro 2033).
What is plasticard?
Man, would I love if someoney made the stick for me haha.
