Same technique used as the previous paintings. Reference used with color pick up from the brush. Completly done in Photoshop though.
Planning on using my own photos soon, but figured for fun sake, to go ahead and do a painting of the well known, Captain Jack Sparrow. Again, it's all just for fun.

Yeah, great impasto effect. The face is a bit too much overshadowed for my taste, though. However, very nice job!

Thanks for the comments.
Brushes are supplied with the Photoshop 7 WOW! Book. Pricey ($50-$60) for my tastes, but the material and suppliments are well worth it.
Yeah, the face is heavily overshadowed, but in a way I sort of like the effect. Especially since portions of the face show through, but the eyes stay hidden.

I like alot. I didn't think photoshop could do that. I might have to buy the wow book for the brushes. Too bad I can't buy the skill to use them.

I like the quality of the paint on there, although it's a little hard to get clarity out of the image... for example, I don't know what he's holding.. a banana? fun color choices

Ahh, I think I understand... You take a photo and smudge it to make the strokes and then emboss it and add some impasto fill. I did it just now on a more cartoony image with not so great effect. The method is only as good as the lighting of the original image...

Lined art is not so good for this... Interesting though.
I didn't mean to hijack your thread, I was just confused by what you were doing and I went out and got the Photshop 7 Wow book to see what was going on.

Thrash: Pretty much that. Lighting does play a crucial part for how the final image will look, plus resolution size if you're working from a picture. Nice piece though you used for your example of it. And don't worry about hijacking the topic, I'm always interested in seeing other people's work.
Cotron: I see what your saying, and reason for the technique used on this piece is because I really didn't just want to slap on some paint and make it look too much like a filter, you know? So I went with adding detail only on certain areas, such as the strap going over his shoulder, hair, etc. Oh and yeah, he's holding a banana.

...but can you do it with a real brush on a blank canvas? I don't see the difference between this and the other member who traced for reference then added his own color.
