Okay I have to ask you two, Did either if you use reference? Both pictures are VERY well done.
Commander Obvious- He almost looks pouting. The eyes make the piece. I would like to see more texture in it though like maybe he would be sitting on cedar chips in a little glass aquarium? Run with it... its great!
Phuzion- Great figure work, Its difficult to capture the angle and twist that you have, especially with her right foot even a little lifted as she twists. Little things like that make a huge difference. You've really paid good attention to detail. Now I am going to go look at more of your work. :D
Off to get ready for the day, hope to be able to participate later today!!

Part sea-life, part man. Man being the common animal. Oh and part robot.
Damn I wish I would have done my homework instead of this painting. Wait maybe not :)
Oh and its not done yet. Will add more detail to his tummy and flippers. I guess I was thinking about the Batman movie that had Danny DeVito in it, the name of which escapes me at the moment.

Wonky legs I know. and I even used a ref. Fat lot of good it did me but it's too ugly to fix so I might give this theme another shot after work...
http://amerasu.randomleft.com/ca/feb24_04_roosterfly.jpg
Phuzion - Very nicely drawn excuse for a naked chick ;)
Commander Obvious - I love it! Looks just like my little hamster.. sort of ;)
Hagac - I like your lighting, it's very atmospheric.
guns1inger - That's creepy!
Matt Dixon - One of my cats is actually that evil. Great painting as always.
ApricotSoup - Like your rooster but def like the little meercat more. He's cute.
toinjoints - Nicely done!
WoodenWorkhorse - Like your cat creature colours.
The Assmonkey - lol
Hope I didn't miss anyone

Here's mine. Not exactly the most original interpretation in the universe but it was the first thing that came to mind, so I went with it.
http://www.jenniferwilliamson.com/dailysketch/tiger.jpg
Amerasu - it may be ugly but I like it. I suspect giving the dragonfly wings (mosquito wings) a more formal home as the rooster's wings would have been a little less unnerving.
Hagac - that just ain't right...and I mean that with love.
And Phuzion - Nicely done and hurrah for breasts that don't look fake!!! (pet peeve of mine)
Nice job everyone!

Phusion that is some sweet linework. Really nice understanding of anatomy!
Commander obvious - love the eyes man. Cool idea.
Hagac that is a great start, looking forward to seeing him finished.
Gunslinger he's got a cool ant head. Nice idea
Matt Dixon I don't know how you do it dude, that's simply amazing. I love your style and always look forward to what you come up with.
Apricot nice colors on that chicken
toinjoints thats a cool bear. I bet he's look good with horns too
woodenworkhorse nice movement and nice flow of the lines
assmonkey thats a great monkey - not sure how it fits the topic but it's a cool illustration
Amerasu great idea :) It's a dragon-rooster-fly? Cool head and feet
Great work everyone. Hope to see one from hunger artist and davi today too. Also where has hand been? This topic seems right up his alley.
Here's mine for today. Beware the rare and elusive RattleChimp!

Used a ref for the chimp and the snake. I think i definately need to start using more refs in my practicing.
Keep it up everybody!

Commander Obvious: I love that idea. Rock on man!
Hagac and Matt Dixon: You guys both got some killer lighting going on. Props.
The Assmonkey: I love it! I'm a sucker for good cartooning.
Beatnik: Great use of colors, I don't think I could ever make a combo like that look good, but you did with finesse.
Iotrez: you have some nice energy going on in that sketch... I'd like to see it a little more worked, but not too much. Nice stuff.
Hey thanks everyone. Glad you liked her... To answer Crave my Nightmare's question, no I didn't use reference. But yes, I've done a fair amount of life drawing. I'm really just a nut for little details and unconcious habits, they're what I find attractive about people... so yeah. It's all out of my dome. I try and keep that way with my conceptual work, and I leave the model drawing/painting for studying/class. Peace all

This is an older sketch that I touched up, but I'll submit a completely new one for sure... I have so many ideas floating in my head that right now I can't get a hold of just one of them. I love anthropomorphs, so I'll definitely have something. Maybe multiple somethings.

Few Comments:
Phuzion- Oh so you are one of the few in the world that can draw beautiful figures WITHOUT reference. Now I am jealous. :D Keep up the beautiful work, I can only hope to someday make it look as flawless as you have.
DocBoom - Super Cute! Oh if only bunnies could do that! I guess its cause I, along with most other ladies, dig fuzzy things :)
Beatnik - Very well done. Difficult combination to pull off but I think you did a lovely job!
Swan - Just breath-taking. Lovely clarity, lines.....the whole shabang.
Amerasu - I had to stop and stare for a while. It doesnt sit well with me. Not because of the artwork, just something about a dragonfly butt on a chicken/rooster just... *twitch* Good job.
Matt Dixon - Awesome commando kitty. My cat felt so liberated after seeing that.
To all: Well done! Great turnout for this topic!

February 24th, 2004, 09:04 PM
Its one of those cases where I had to let it die. I couldn't get it to look right so I went for the cartoon approach.
I figured a mouse could use a shell... hard on the cat's teeth.

Well done to everyone, there's some great work here.
Firstly I've got my interpretation of a sphinx, which is stretching the topic a bit (the wings could really do with some tlc, and the whole thing could do being tightened up):

Not much time tonight folks, lucky you. I originally did one at work today, but wasn't thrilled with it, being a snake with a mouse body as it's tail while cosuming itself...
Looks as if Squids were a theme for the past few. Here's my Squidhorse I did with pencil, and made a Duotone in Photoshop in about 45 minutes.
