My brother wanted me to do some artwork depicting scenes in a story he's writing (english majorwork). The setting is a post apocalyptic city, very few people left. The main character is investigating an underground cult that practices cannibalism (which he is violently opposed to).
Anyway the scene I'm working on is where he's going through a boarded up apartment thick with dust, very little light, that sort of thing.
First step: a very basic preliminary sketch

Trying to work out the colours, I think I need some help with this:

I'm thinking that at a later stage I might further stretch this out, maybe scale up the main character.

Now I'm really looking for critiques on the colour and composition, but if you want to offer anything else, be my guest.

BTW there's a boarded up window and a couch there, a bit hard to see at the moment.

Reposed the character slightly, and started painting him. About 40mins in photoshop for this bit, I like the direction his face his taking, his clothes aren't quite on the right track yet. I haven't added the lighting from the window yet.

Also a slight colour change in the plan, the client didn't like the green:

Now that there's something to actually crit, go ahead and don't hold back.

the painting is going nice and i really like the color scheme your setting up. (I'll miss the green)

the change in pose is good but i think he still looks real static. I would move his right arm away from his side and maybe have him holding it backwards a bit like in this cartoon i found from alltheweb...

for the costume a bit more of a detective look might work... maybe a trenchcoat type thing.. with the collar all popped up :]

I definitely agree with the arm, not to the extent of the cartoon, I should fix that next time around.
As for the trenchcoat, I was given a specific description of the main character and his clothing, and while he does wear a trenchcoat, he doesn't seem to wear it indoors.

An update, I've added the second light source, the gun needs some work, I've also fix up some of the thick lines:

Long time, no update...

I worked on this for an hour today, I think I done about an hour on top of that since the last update. I really need some help with this gun (which I find it easier to work with rotated, it will be turned back). Any other comments would be great as well.
Note to self: do some work on the background.

The perspective looks a bit funky, anyone want to offer some help?

if he is behind a wall, there probably shouldnt be a yellow ligh being cast on him. if he isnt .. then .. cool. i think you are doing fine.
