Hello I'm new here and I'm really interested in story-telling, and would love to make my passion my career. I realize that I have a lot to learn, and would love to absorb new techniques and knowledge from this community.

The Synopsis
The Sad Panda Fellowship (2D animated film) is a dark comedy drama, about a girl who suffers many hardships through life. She eventually decides to kill herself, but realizes that she's actually an immortal. Confused, frustrated and lonely, she meets a genie called Mic who decides to help her break the curse. As the story progresses it seems like Mic's intentions are drastically different from hers.

I welcome criticism, both art-wise and story-telling-wise.

I made this movie for my senior project in college, and unfortunately this is only part 1 of a 3 part story. I really want to finish the entire story, but I realize the amount of time and effort that I have to put into the next 2 parts is extremely impractical for me. Especially when I am unemployed and desperately trying to find a job. If you have any advice, please point me in the right direction.

I don't know if showing prospective employers an animation regarding suicide is a wise first move....

One of the writers for the animated series Invader Zim, Jhonen Vasquez, was dismissed from Nickelodeon for working on a personal comic about a homicidal maniac....

Just be careful what you show a studio.

I'm with TGNSD on this one

they will remember you, but not in a positive way IMO

there are 2 mindsets
- the creative - this has that, it looks very art scool (I like the textures etc)
- the money - how can I sell this/ make money from it (I can't)

any studio will be thinking technical/money

my humble opinion

>.< Crap...

It's one of the things that I'm most proud of though...I just called up an animation place and I felt like this really shows what I can do with After Effects @_@....aaaaghhh. Conflicted.

There was a lot of work put into this. An insane amount of work. But i feel like your voice over is lacking, it takes away a lot from the story. If it's supposed to be sad and gloomy her voice should reflect that. Not that it's changing now but it's something to think about for part three. at times she sounds too flat, the character doesn't move much so a lot of what the character reads has to come through that voice.

the animation looks great for after affects, very clean and smooth. my hat goes off to you. good luck with the work thing. I would suggest putting together some happy child based shorts before finishing this. i'm talking thirty seconds max. like a fake commercial type of thing that shows of your skills quickly. i'm sure with all you've learned from doing these first two short films you can burn out thirty seconds of strong animation in a under two weeks. if you can't get a good strong character voiceover than use music and sound affects to get over that hurdle.

Thank you for your reply. Actually I wasn't clear enough. That whole segment is just part 1, of the three part story. I divided the video in two parts because it took too long to upload separately.

I wanted to portray her as someone who's a bit feisty and strong but stuck in a situation where she couldn't control for a long time, until finally she snapped and ran away. So I didn't want her to sound like a gloomy person, or at least not always. I also wanted to portray some kind of witty dark humor in the way she deliver her lines.

Unfortunately, all of this is just amateur voice work, and I hope that I can get some professionals in the future when I gain more ground and backing.

Too bad no studios have replied me yet. I'll take your advice and work on some short stuff. I'm actually more into story telling so I'll probably do some comics instead. Thank you for your reply, it is very valuable.
