Hey all. A lot of the people on this board seem to know what's what, so I was wondering if I could get any advice. I'll be finishing animation school in May, and I'm updating my throw-away portfolio.
Keep in mind I don't necessarily want to be an animator. I want to do anything and everything artistic.
This is what I have so far. What would you say I need more of, less of, some of, or all of? Don't pull any punches either ...
Thanks a lot ... I really appreciate it.

The stuff looks great!
My take on it is: what kind of work are you looking for? The answer you posted--"I want to do anything and everything artistic" --is something I'd strongly recommend you rethink.
There is SO MUCH competition for every kind of artistic slot right now that generalists are just not much in demand. If you want to art-direct videos, if you want to be an animator, if you want to design book covers, whatever-- put together a portfolio aimed at PRECISELY THAT ONE JOB and show it to video directors or animation studios or book publishers (or whatever.)
Good luck.

If you're making a professional portfolio for people and such to review, even if you're sending it into video game places and magazines and such, you need to show some major variety. While you show alot of awesome graphic design type art, try and add some more a)figure drawing b)portraits and c)maybe even some still lives. Show that you can do everything, and you'll be found.

good stuff..
i like how u kept the color balance of the whole portfolio neutral...
u seem to be exel at illustrator, you should be more of a graphic designer...
i feel u about being more artisitic then something your gunna become ;)..

Hey, thanks for all the replies. Yeah, that Izual page was for a 3D animation that a classmate and I did before we took a roadtrip to the Blizzard studio. So it's all our work, but I think you're right, probably a bad idea to have it in there. *sigh*
Still kinda confused. Some people say to have a little of everything, others say to specialize more...
I think me going into the "real world" is going to look a lot like a small child wandering into traffic...

looking good
just a small thing: although it's cool for all of us to know what techniques you used i dont think the people hiring really care. all they care about is if your work will atract people and if you're reliable.
