so

i had a thought (gasp) a little while ago about art and the reason for why i do it at the point in my life right now. I mean do i do it so i can get feedback from people or do i do it because i want the ego masage? Do i actually like what i do or do i do it because there isnt much else i can do. Now be warned i have ADHD so my mind, decisions, and plans are like quicksand. For me art from observation has always been work. I mean theres nothing like getting something right after lots of hours of doing it wrong. but what about drawing from the mind, being creative. There is no law that says your doing it right or wrong. no list that you should check off. If there is then im trying to please others and not myself.

mindless gibbering...:carnifex:

I've just went through the same, but not drawing for more than a month made me realize that I'm just asking stupid questions.
If you like to draw it doesn't matter why.

For me it's all about the sound of graphite on paper. it's like my heroin.

Art is an expression on ones self. Everybody feels he or she has something to say, some can express it in speech, others in athletic ability, some in military action and others become politicians ( lol)

Art creators express themselves through the visual. Feedback for art creations ( good or bad) is usually fast and directly to the point. I guess that’s something we really want. Anyway, if you feel the need to create in the visual sense then you will do it and if ART has really touched your soul then you will create artwork whether you gain recognition or not.

Along the lines of what Novbert said, maybe you can try an experiment.

Take a week off from it all. What I mean by "all" is:

Don't sketch/paint/otherwise make art
Don't visit this forum or any blog/other website where you get feedback from your work.
Go outside, go to places and look at things you normally wouldn't.

Then see what you miss first/most. Do you miss showing your work to others, comparing it to them, competing, getting compliments? Or are you getting antsy because your head is full of new influences and inspiration and you're resisting the compulsion to put it down?

The answer will likely be the latter, and it'll make you feel better about what you do. Worked for me, anyway.
