Dude that's a nice pose! Cute friend too :D

If I could make an observation, I think you could add a bit more mass to the back and top of her head. Looks a bit small right now.

when doing portraits you can take the route of accentuating and communicating the qualities of the subject.

for example...erin is all about the eyes and the LIPS...look at those gorgeous lips....now look at what you painted. Those lips should inspire the marks...same goes for her eyes.

your job is to tell us about her visual qualities..like a writer would tell the story of her...her qualities that stand out can be emphasized to communicate like a writer would with words...that way it not only will look like her but the first imression would be "wow erin!" that way when we dont see the phpto it will be the same response "holy shit that is your friend erin"

I dont know if its intentional or not, but her espression has changed from the photo.... she looks much more concerned and possibly sad in your portrait, where as in the photo she looks more carefree. It looks like youve pursed her lips together a little bit, in the photo they are slightly looser, as well with her eyes, they are opened a bit wider in the photo. This might be the effect you were going for though....

Tedsuo: Yeah i see what you mean by that. I messed up with the hair, that's the main problem. Working on it now.

Element412: Basicly i just started by picking a few colors off her then altering them some and working from there on. It's odd, i started picking colors from here but the more i did that the worse they looked. Photos are odd..

Jason Manley: I understand completely, but my two main problems are, 1) I'm VERY unexperienced with painting. 2) I can't do female faces. For some reason female faces just don't allow mistakes. I've gotten away with tons of mistakes from doing male portraits.

KeatonMarks: Yeah i see what you mean. It wasn't intentional, I just kinda suck :( I think I might be able to fix that by fixing the chin, it would make everything kinda tilt more. I hope..

it looks good, but the features are too big for the head. I would make them smaller or make the head and body bigger. why not scan ur friends pic in and blow it up. sketch in comp using the pic as ur ref. or print it out and sketch it first then scan the sketch and keep on goin. this way u can't get any of the features wrong:D
