Inspired specifically by MindCandyMan and Jester, and their obvious progression of progress (redundancy is funny right now for some reason), I'm endeavoring to post my stuff here. It probably won't be daily, but maybe. I try to keep up with the DSG....anyway. I think I'll just post some old DSG stuff first, and a hand study that I did referencing my own hand (yes, it's that small and fat).

hmmm...I'll do add some older stuff too.

This first one is called summer. It's from before I figured out that I needed to fix pastels to the paper. hence the mess. done while substitute teaching a high school biology class (we watched a video about dolphins). To do over, I'd have used a dark blue paper.

This guy was a DSG. Shoulda used a reference. Then maybe his arm would look connected to his body.

A thing I did that included lots of experimenting. Just looking at it, I see several things I would do differently now, specifically the lip and chin of the woman looking downward at the top.

Another DSG

Old thing done while in England. Sat in the front yard of the place I was at and drew the tree. The rest is from a verse in the Bible (Ps 1 actually..the whole chapter). Would do tons diff now, but was also testing out my new pastel pencils purchased there (and maped epure erasers..mmmmm). bad scan...paper bent some.

Something semi-recent....sorta...last 6 months

and that's enough for now....oh wait...the hand.

I like this one. Is it light versus dark? Looks kinda Celt/Vikingish.

Looks like you've got potential. Just practice, get some reference material when you need it (an anatomy book to start) and study perspective. Good imagination.

I guess it did kinda turn out like that. I was actually wanting to practice celtic knots (shoulda used a reference for those too, lol), and then just starting drawing random bits and pieces of things that I'd drawn before and that's what it turned out like.

This is one from the aforementioned trip to England...which was the summer of 2002. It's more of a good/evil;light/dark thing. but really it's more about how relative our perceptive is and how badness and pain permeate alot of the things we call good...and those things we think are beautiful are laced with hidden sorrow. lol...I had some troubles with the colors. Was still in the early early days with the pastels, and then kinda messed it up even more messing with filters in psp7. Am waiting for my intuos2 to arrive in the mail tho, and maybe that old piece will get some new life. We'll see.

this one is february 2002 if I remember correctly. it was one of the first things I did that I could say was truly "my style." I'd done a few things prior, but had only picked up a pencil again a about a year prior to that. It started out as a pencil sketch..scanned..took out the parts I liked the most (the heart and the dagger) and went with it. Alot of my family and stuff said it was too gruesome. I like it that way tho. :p. Oh, and it was part of an online store at one point, and was a poster. Not anymore...now it's just a bloody heart. :chug:

Nice sketches you've got here.

About the two latest, I like them, but the color version more. Very nice colors on her clothes.
One thing is that her right arm (the lower part) is too big and looks stiff. If you fix that, the picture will look great.

Anyway, keep posting!

Just a little practice. I bought a few Bridgman books, and these are out of the hands book.

Just a very preliminary sketch of a painting that's been in my mind to do. this is the main idea for the theme, and there will be peripheral components soon enough, hopefully...then onto canvas and stuff. I'm in search of an exceptional example of a pig's skull, btw..frontal view...either nose down or up.

well, I've been working on the painting concept some this morning. all the sketching around the pig was done on the tablet, which is very encouraging. I'm thinking that I might actually try painting it on here so that I'll have a real road map concerning my ideas for the final traditional media piece. I'm not really gonna say anything bout the whole thing except to say that it refers to religion. (that's obvious). There's another one in thought stages that'll involve the bull head and refer to sacrifice. we'll see. I don't want them to be the same, but do want them to go together.

and just in case you wondered..no, I haven't seen the passion..sheesh.

hmm, I messed up. the version that shoulda been here is above (d'oh..I didn't alter the file name when I resaved it and uploaded the new). so, anyway, originally, just the piggy head was there...all the peripheral stuff is new and offa the tablet.

well, I think I'm just gonna have to buy painter8. anyhow, here are some updates...the first is just missing the sketch layer. I love the look of oil paint. there's some ink on there too, because I wasn't being very successful with realy fine details with the paints.

well, wanted to do some anatomy studies. these are from vanderpoel's life drawing book. I think I might add the references so you can compare. I tried to use a charcoal pencil which is a strange medium for me, but I love the dark blacks that are available with it.

most recent progress on the painting. it's coming along slowly and am more and more happy with it. I beefed out the snout abit, which helps some imo. am really enjoying painter8, tho am gonna have to say goodbye soon unless I wanna break down and buy the whole version.
