Hey! You have a very nice pencil style, I remember when I did cross-hatching and sketching a bit like your first sketches agesa go. Actually, I keep meaning to scan in more of my sketchbooks... hmm.
Great work!

me gusta estos dibujos mucho, y yo no hablo espanol bueno, las memorias de la lengua estan disapado, ....um I don't think that was correct, hooray for highschool spanish class! anyways these are awesome, I love all the differnt portraits, and your blocked out forms. man, life drawing is key, I wish I would have learned that sooner in life. do it as much as you can as early as you can because it takes a lot of work to get good at it. keep it up!

JackalAnubis --- Gracias por tus comentarios ... i also liked your drawings specially the one of an asian girl, i hope you did well with your t-shirt project ... thanks
pickassoreborn ---- Hey give it a try with those sketchs i also checked your website pretty neat flash interface i like it ;;; funky monkey :D
I am starting to practice on Painter for the first time with my wacom, doing some sketches, not as quick as i would like to , the most important part is to practice color .....
I will never , NEVER use color pick because i think is cheating, the only time i use it is in my own drawing window to start from current color , just that .....
Always remember Ron Lemen , and Kincept tutorials when practicing, and prometheus ANJ radiosity theory ....... i will practice i will practice , i will practice, Repeat with me
This is my first sketch , always start with color value, between 2 or 4 never more that that i usually use 3, this photo doesnt have good contrast , well .......use a pale warm color for background because i think the drawing is cool (colors for the cloth)......
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/prac1.jpg
For this one the underwear was tooo pale so i decided to put part of my imagination on the values and a cool background color because of dominant warm skin .... dont mind the proportion its awful remember no line scan .......study color study color, study color, repeat with me .....
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/prac2.jpg
For this one i was suposed to be a sketch but ended like a --- sketchifinaldrawing frankestein ---- so again proportion is awful because the laying out was poor , i think i been caught in detail and lost the meaning of this exercise and also used many small brush size , wich is wrong for this purpouse .... i have to keep practicing to discover the solution by myself, also i am a coward because i didnt try to make the water effect it was scary :( , also had a lot of trouble with the skin color it never seemed good
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/prac3.jpg
well thats all for now i will keep posting so i will be my motivation to practice .... muchas gracias por su atencion.

Saludos a todos, well i wanted to keep practicing sketches
but once in a while is good to make a finished piece so here it is,......
took me two days and it is focused on Prometheus ANJ Radiosity tutorial
specialy in the hands section of the model.....
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/prac4.jpg
Again i was reading threads and tutorials on this forum
and for now i can see major mistakes in my work ...
first on proportion ....but i can pass that for now because i am focusing on just color
...... its seems like i am just discovering color theory ......
this sketches have colors made by intuition
wich is bad because this exercise it is supposed to be for SEEEING THE RIGHT COLORS
not inventing them .....
i worked all of the following sketches at a 20% preview window
so i can focus myself on the big parts and avoid using small brushes
wich i am controling a bit more
A note: since we all talk about life drawing is better than Photo reference
because the photograph makes some color values
tend to black and some to white
so this detail is lost , unles you modify
the picture levels in photoshop some things reapear
,,, amazing ,, really ....
so i use my imagination ( and some theory)
to make the possible colors in some parts
...mayyybe something bad
.... mmaayybe something good .....
This is kinda High Key of Chroma
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/prac5.jpg
***
This is Low key chroma
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/prac6.jpg
********
This one is i think Middle key chroma ,,,, am i just inventing this critics or what ????
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/prac7.jpg
i almost forgot, i have to begin seeing
the planes and volume at the same time
as value color ,,, not just pasting colors
at random with no solid form :bash:
Well this thread doesnt offer anything to learn
but its function is of two things for now,
one is to in some way inspire the forum users (like i was inspired)
to make more drawings and to try be better each time
you can do it !!! :D
And the second is to make me have a reason
to practice and make my drawings be seen by an audience
that has the same interests as me ...
Keep posting and Drawing for i will to ;)
Adios y Buena Suerte a todos :D

hola a todos!
Now i just discovered a model drawing class
on the newspaper and i am taking it
every saturday, obviously i read Kevin Chens
thread everytime so i can get the latest tips
here are my first examples of the first
saturday, using pencil
Poses of 10 , 15 and 20 minutes
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/workshop1.jpg
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/workshop2.jpg
As you can see i am having trouble with value
and no line variation, too many innecesary
detail, no form , no planes , i had to improve
more .....
Now here is the second saturday again using
pencil , but this time i re-draw one day before
some of Mr. Kevin Chens drawings and realize
many things ...... :)
poses of 10, 15 and 20 minutes .....
my teacher insist of me to let go
the straight line , i saw NO!!!!
please watch the first two poses,
the one in the left is what i do ,
and the right one is me forcing to
do teachers idea of curve, because
he says there is no straight line in
the human body ........ its like disorder
with no form, i prefer straight lines
with form and character ......
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/workshop3.jpg
i didnt listen and continue with my believings
because i want first to practice planes
and form ....... what do you think of this??????
now the model sitting VERY DIFFICULT !!!
 for me i was sweating :D
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/workshop4.jpg
because of perspective things near
seem bigger and distorted, very difficult
thing to make ....
well i thinks thats all for now , but i will
post more of this and more color sketches
very soon , please keep on the good threads
i will go on too !!!!!
(yes i know i dont do concept art, but
i dont feel secure for now)
Muchas gracias, saludos a todos !!!:)

Saludos , well i here are saturdays
Life drawing workshop...
So its my 3rd Saturday so i am not
expecting much improvement
The 5 to 10 minute drawing, again i have
trouble with mass and with figure balance .......
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/workshop5.jpg
i experimented line weight in this class
Again problems with proportion and very unbalanced .... i tried what is called in spanish
as ESCORZO , means of doing some perspective
on the model ......
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/workshop6.jpg
still using pencils i will try chalk next class....
Puff ,,, just by seeing these and comparing
to others in this site i have a long looooong
way to go, NO MASS, NO PLANES,
NO INTENTION, NO RYTHM, NO VALUES,
practice, practice, practice, practice
repeat with me
next in a short time some color sketches ....
Saludos a todos y buena suerte

Como estan??
I hope you all are doing fine, right now
i am practicing for my saturday class,
making copies of all the book of
"Jack Hamm Drawing the head and figure"
because its very relaxing and i think i
am learning more than just by
reading it ........
But here are other Photo reference sketches:
this one is a really quick one ( well for me
quick is two hours)
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/prac8.jpg
This one is one of my favorites, because
it has good battle between cold and warm,
and also i like the skin color ....... its kinda
finished piece ... again like one day or two
to finish :D
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/prac9.jpg
This one its a finished piece, very very very
difficult to make , i had a loooooot of trouble
making this one , a lot of problems in
proportion , and when making it i remembered
something about Francis Tsai Tutorial......
FLIP THE IMAGE once in a while ......
 i freaked out it looked horrible
so i was depressed , and modified it and carried
on, (please dont flip this image ;) )
Also i was just watching a tv program about
the artist Willi Sitte, wow really good artist
and changed the brand in the bathing suit
of this girl for the artist name just a small
tribute for all the inspiration
i received watching his paintings ......
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/prac10.jpg
Well thats all for now , i promise to practice
more , really so i can make up to you all ....
keep the good threads i learn a lot,
and laugh too :D !!!!
i like this forum a lot

i cant believe noone has posted in here! you are obviously very dedicated and youve been doing a lot of work. i wish i could give you a really good crit, but i dont think i could give you any useful advice. except maybe you should try to find photos to copy that arent from magazines. the images youve been copying are all extremely saturated and the photos in magazines are so touched up and adjusted that they are really poor representations of real life.
i really like your life drawings, the straight lines are great, i actually find them very expressive.
anyway, i just wanted to say keep it up! i think youre doing fine.

I love what you've done with your drawings, your analyzing the planes. Especially on the clothes, you've kept it simple yet have a suggestion of something underneath it. Have your read Bridgeman?

Hola a todos !!!
Hey thanks for watching my works and giving
me such a great support :D :D
-nil - : Thank you for your comments,
you are right about the saturated photographs,
but for now i really enjoy saturation, and
i am still novice in color, so i will get better
photos after finishing the batch i have in
my folder :)
By the way you are doing fine with your
gesture drawings keep the work too !!
- jadedchron - : Yeah thanks !!!! :D
- ivaj - : Thanks for your comments, i like
to make simple enough, and about Bridgeman
i heard about it but i dont know his works ....
- jetpack42 - : Cool i hope you have a good
time coloring and studying, i visited your site
and liked your robot -steam concept , its good
Thanks again , not many people likes my
straight line drawings , they say is not good,
its better to use curve .... but i like to give
solid feel and structured form ........
I have a looong way to go i promise more
works for you all , and less text ......
practice, practice, practice, repeat with me

Saludos a todos !!!!
Hey Wonn, thanks for your comments
i relly like your style, i checked your
other posts and the figures for the
magazinnes are Great !!! :) , and
also i see you have great response
about critics from other Forum members
please consider them , i just hope
i had the same attention :D :D :D
keep posting !!!!!!!!!
:o Well well well now to the sketches,
first the ones i made in my last figure
class, this time i used charcoal....
BIG CHANGE in LINEWORK , i noticed
i had more expressive possibilities, but
i still have a loooong way to go with
proportion and transfering it right on paper....
I started to use the thick part of the charcoal
and to lay a background ( i didnt like the idea)
I think i lose detail but gained volume
... what do you think ??????
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/workshop7.jpg
Next some portraits ...AWFUL proportion,
i have big problems with face lay out, in
all my works
Also started to make more pressure with
the charcoal, and loose up the strokes......
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/workshop8.jpg
Now some marker sketches from my small
notebook, i want to make only portraits,
to practice face lay out and markers .....
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/tatou1.jpg
Another one, pretty messy and dirty
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/tatou2.jpg
:o Now to the color part
I felt depressed when i finished the drawing
the one up and left, i was scared of beginning
another one, i thought i had it
kinda controled, but i was just
making a mess ...... i felt sad
....so ... i came back to the Forum
and checked Ron Lemens Notes,
.... here are a few quotes that falled
to me like cold water and woke me up
( well not completly)
1) "The more we attach to what we see
by context, the harder that object gets
to solve, and the more we rely upon
getting the textures to convince
the eye of what it sees"
2) " The problem most everyone seems
to have with painting the human head
is they paint colors that they see them
in a photograph, but they dont paint
a guy, a 3-dimensional man"
So having in mind this i made one more
try and i felt with more confidence to
continue practicing, Thanks Ron !!!!
(and i promised less text and
more images  ,, sorry )
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/prac13a.jpg
Remember i am focusing on color
not proportion or faces, for now,
another one .....
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/prac13b.jpg
I stick to just 3 or 4 values, i think
i am understanding better this concept in
the last sketches ........
Seee what i told you about my face
lay out problems seee .... :(
Bad lay out
.... but with more confidence :D
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/prac14.jpg
Well thats all for now, i am working
on new ones, ... faster, less detail,
more value more practice.. practice ....
practice ... practice ..... practice

First of all thanks to JOSHUATHEJAMES
for changing my thread to the daily sketchbook
sub - forum .... so i am new here :D :D
i will start walking around those wonderful
sketchbooks and threads .......
Well my second time using charcoal, i am
starting to love this little black bars ......:)
but as usually i come up with my proportion
problems and erros that come when you land
on strange land ......:o :o
And about the color sketches i will let them go
for now, i cant pass my fear to color now
and i am very enthusiastic about anatomy
so...... i will follow anatomy now :p
sketches range from 3 min. warm ups....
I usually use the thick part in few strokes
to describe mass , then i enter to " detail "
capture light and movement for now
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/workshop9.jpg
these ones are more close ups
of 10- 15 -20 min
but keeping in mind the TERM CLAROSCURO
when light parts appear put dark
and in dark leave white .... sort of
:p :p
http://www.gab8.com/ca/past/workshop10.jpg
Well thats all for now,
critics are very welcome ,
i hope i can post comments
on your threads too ,
i am very happy to be

good to see you here! I like that style of rendering you're doing on those life drawings, it's kindof cubic and geometric , and you're getting a great feeling of form and volume
Jane Radstrom
April 20th, 2004, 01:07 AM
Hi! :) I really enjoy the color studies you are doing, I need to do a bunch of those myself. The blocky/linear drawings you were doing before you started using the charcoal were really nice as well! I am not sure if I like the charcoal drawings as much. I think maybe you need more defined core shadows and relected light, are you familiar with those?
I don't think your teacher is right in trying to get you to make all your lines curvy. Of course you shouldn't draw one straight line from the elbow to the wrist or something, but I don't see any problem with your drawings like that. By the last few line drawings you did you had some very nice, specific forms going in a really interesting style. I've seen most beginers make all curves and circles and their drawings have no structure - at least you are not in that trap. ;)

excellent work gaboartpage,
The angular approach is making some knock-out results in those figure drawings. esp. on the girls faces in b/w a few back and your using all the properties of the charcoal stick to describe the figure. Very well done.
I also see the painting studies kicking in. That's something that intimidates me much to my disadvantage.
well done man.

PlasmaViper:Everybody at work make jokes about that hahahahaha
Well another lesson i learned at Austin
was that i need to start drawing from
my mind so everything in this thread
was photo-ref or life drawing
now i will post my drawings and projects
This is my FINAL GOAL TO DO
this kind of drawing with more
than one character interacting
on perspective and doing something
but i want to do it without linework
just value - color .... i have a loooooong road
to cover ...........
I should Thank Artkitty for pushing me
to post this old Manga drawings well
heres for you .... two example sketches
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/rooftop_discussion.jpg
Another one
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/plaza_time.jpg
They lack some motion in human proportion
because i used a small mannequin for reference ......
And now some pages of my Austin anatomy
sketchbook , i have to say again to check
the Thank you thread i am lazy to write thanks
again to SO MANY PEOPLE , ..... i miss you all
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/backgirl1.jpg
I noticed repetition is the key ... try it
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/square_faces1.jpg
an Anime rotation
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/aeka_head1.jpg
some muybridge studies
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/muybridge1.jpg
Dammit i saw some posts and sketches done in Austin
and i feel bad of posting this crap :(
But after seeing sooooo many great artists i kind of
felt inspired and decided to do something
differentet .... so i started holding the mechanical
pencil like a japanese brush (from the top)
so the strokes are less controled but more varied
and here it is a different approach
from my blocky straight lines . . . . also
the holy style of Yoshitaka Amano was in my mind
at all the time ... jeeshh silly me ......
Miss Conduct sketch
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/miss_conduct1.jpg
Rose knight
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/amano_inspired.jpg
I started looking for elements around me
and used them for reference for this sketches
anything goes
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/backpackgirl.jpg
I kind of like fabrics and stuff
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/curve_flow1.jpg
So from now on i kinda like punk girls with loooong noses
hahahahaha here is a SAKURA pen brush sketch
that went to crap i loose the overall purpouse
and fill with stupid non content detail ......
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/sakura_pen.jpg
This is my BEAST OF BURDEN sketch it was hard
to have a good place so many talented and funny
gentlemens were competing ..
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/202_beast_of_burden.jpg
Here it is my goodbye sketch -note
dedicated to all of you........... did i told you girls and guys i miss you
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/goodbye_note.jpg
This is a JEWEL i got in Austin :) Thanks Rich !!!!!!!!!! F***** ng awesome
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/insane_visions_dunes.jpg
So now the Austin AFTER - STUFF
i am trying a looooot of composition and abstract stuff
lots of thumbnails inspired by Scott and Sparth
Of course this is crap , give me a chance guys
i am starting here :)
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/abstract1.jpg
more 4 value thumbnails wich one do you like?
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/abstract_compo1.jpg
Heh a silly portrait
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/barbon.jpg
NOW here it is a 6 ILLUSTRATIONS project i want to do
in a short term because i dont do anythung finished
so here are the faaast sketchs thumbnails searching for some
female androids robots , .... ill do full color .... im scared ....
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/robogabo1.jpg
More fast sketches just searching shape sillouhette
The illustration is going to be something
like the little illo down at right with floating dress
i want a VERY SIMPLE drawing but easy
to recognize and practice rendering ... well
i will not write and better start to keep working
http://www.gab8.com/ca/trip/robogabo2.jpg
Damn soo many good artist i feel good for
knowing you guys in person ill work harder
from now on i promise , just look at all the
updates in the threads ITS AMAZING !!!!!!!

Awesome Gabriel. I really wanted to meet you in Austin, I'm glad I could on the 4th day. You were on my list! I really dig the looser style. Esp that girl on the goodbye page. Also, that "silly portrait" RULES! Ink Wash? Man, I love it. I wish we could have had more time to hang out, but at the next workshop, ok? 2 things that have helped me loosen my work up is
-drawing with a pen exclusively.
-doing gestures and quick sketches (with pen even).
anyway, keep up the awesome sketching and work. You're on track, practice is the only thing in your way to greatness..

still searching for a good design that pleases me

continue searching forms and give extreme importance
to the fabrics design , volume, value - color and form
search for shapes in photos and life for inspiration . . . . .

Gabe - thanks for the thank you post, the whole thing was a great read!
all of the stuff you just posted is really awesome. it's great because not only does it show the work you've done in the past, but it gives us a point of reference - it's even easier to see how good you were and how good you've become, along with what styles you enjoy.
the project you're working on now is really interesting. I'm excited to see how you proceed - your notes are fantastic, I see you learned a lot of the same things I did while in Austin, and it's great to see how you apply them.
best of luck, and thanks so much for your always interesting and informative sketchbook thread! Now I feel guilty - i need to get to drawing!

hey man--it was a pleasure meeting you in austin
heres my honest opinion
get rid of the ANIME studies...IMO theyll only create formulas ...and theres no room for formulas..formulas are bad
i love your dedication and passion for study and design...keep drawing and painting from life...and try different styles of drawing and painting. you have a very angular geometric drawing style...
try to draw like MUCHA or KLIMT or LAUTREC...or the quick gestural dawings of REMBRANDT
expand your stylistic vocabulary as much as possible by studying MASTERS
if you do this youll be unstoppable
thats my honest opinion
you have a special vision as an artist...and your EXTREMELY dedicated....come outside of your comfort zone and it will help you growe
keep up the FANTASTIC work

gabriel,
No matter how long this message is it won't be long enough. You are easily the most passionate person on this forum, both in your art and personality. It was a joy to meet you in Austin and I too am sorry it happened on the last day. I was sitting at the IHOP thinking about how it was all over and I had not had a chance to meet all of the great people from the forum. With so much going on at the workshop it was hard to juggle between having amazing conversations with other artist/attendees and catching all of the intense lectures and demos (I'm really pissed that i missed George Hall). So I'm sitting there with the other fellas half awake and asleep and I blurt out "hey, has anyone met gaboartpage gabriel?" Kyler/Dominie Dirtch immedidly says "he's right over there". Duh, this whole time we were probably running into people we have wanted to meet for a long time without knowing what they look like. I'm glad this happend, it was great talking too you and looking at your intense sketchbook. Your dedication and work are hugely inspiring to me and to learn that you are supporting a family while making this amazing work makes me really feel bad about wasting time. The passion we hold in life translates to the passion in the artwork. You have a wonderful attitude and an intense systematic approach to learning and growing as an artist. Those cubed figures are amazing, you are seeing through the surface and understanding the workings, and those anime perspective drawings are incredible! perspective takes a special discipline. Some artists never learn this fundamental cornerstone of drawing. In short time you will find yourself making amazing paintings with the same intensity as Ron Lemen. I think you know this already, but keep doing your own thing. Learn and evolve your drawing and painting skill so that you command the technical aspects but keep experimenting, These female droids are a great start, they are already unique but keep them that way. Part of the success of an artist comes from creating something the world has never seen, something truly unique, I can see you doing that. Please don't be put off by the drudgery of daily life, the art is what makes our lives extraordinary.
I hope i will have another chance to meet you in the future, but I'm glad i got too already.

Gabriel, cool developments. Thats a great way to go about coming up with something...I just may have to steal it. Keep coming with the studies. We'll all keep helping and encouraging each other. Iron sharpens iron. I have a bold proposition for you...if you liked the drawing I did of you in Austin, I'll swap you for the "silly portrait". I really really dig it. But I'm really such a nice guy I'd send it to you without swapping...I just really like that one...hehe.
Kemp-Tron, the same thing happened to me?! I was lamenting to a few fellas (I think elboy and metaphysiKs) that I didn't get to meet Gabriel and as I'm walking to ask a few more people if they've met him so they can point him out he was standing almost next to them and he says "hey jetpack" and gives me his postcard. I was so happy I hadn't missed him! I was lucky enough to browse his sketchbook later that night too. woot!

Today was my second free day of work
and last for this week so i wanted to relax
and listen music sleep and make some drawings
without worrying about shape and resemblance
Doing marker thumbs made me realize
that you get to practice,
design / compo / start thinking one step ahead
and sharp creativity
no mistakes no erasing so its a lot of tension
at the beggining but have to take it easy
and enjoy the ride
. . . . . S**T
i really write a lot, its my nature i cant
control, i think you guys just want to see
the visual and not the sea of gray (typo)
First abstract with mechanical pencil
and choose an angle or area
http://www.gab8.com/ca/abthumb/thumb_ab1.jpg
This is more thinking of shape first (in mind)
and execute trying to describe deep,
volume or atmosphere . . .repetition is
the key here, for every 20 or 40
one comes ahead

i know i know
i write a looot
here it is another page of sketch
im starting to think my design
is pretty straight forward and i dont
like it so much ... what to do ...what to do
to move character its essential to
snap the body and legs in a good balance
and weight then plug head and arms .....
This design is not so cool and difficult
the hard part is to control the overall
proportions in perspective
and with simple shapes have more
control over rendering the form ....
Ah***t i just remembered i didnt do
options of legs with two articulations
back to the sketchbook then . . . .
hey theres another chibi illo here !! :)
watch out for those tangents too !!

ufff this is very exhausting
when doing running or marathon
it comes a part when your body
begins to get pain so this is
where mental work kicks in
... im at this part
been posting for a week daily
and i am now complaining
im such a girlie-man
my mind is staring to get
in a cycle and creativity
is evaporating
but must go on . . .
many people are posting such work
that is so amazing and inspiring
this is my booster for carry on
i thank you guys for that
yeah yeah just shut the F***k up
and draw man ... well this is getting
pretty boring cause all are the same
structure drawings , just polishing
no colors and stuff .... ...
its hard to come up with new
shapes and HARDER TO ARMONIZE
ALL SHAPES in one design so its
a hard task . . . .
by the way TYLER your freaking comment
is haunting me everytime i start a new page
i thank you for that heres alittle tribute fer ya
http://www.gab8.com/ca/ksteamb/ksteam11.jpg
i shouldnt post this now, so this is
our little secret ;) ok? i hope
it doesnt harm anyone

wow gabirel, that last page is great. I see lots of confidence in the line work, that's part of what I love about your work, solid goemetric forms and angles, but not always. If the robot is giving you trouble try looking at real tech. I'm drawing lots of power tools now and it's helping immensly. Also, if your not content with the design keep sketching, finals can wait until we're 80 ;).
good luck buddy.

hahahaha dude thanks for the support this is the works
i make in the newspaper for editorial sections, you know
politics and stuff ... ill follow your advice for sure
and i hope i can finish as soon as i can ill do it
you keep posting too dude !!!!!!!
well for keeping this alive more marker sketches
something Steak - Tron said in his thread about
not so many "bad things" are shown well heres
a sketch that went to crap
The analisis here is that i made a drawing
with organic line and intended to use the medium
"markers" doing like watercolour or something
i now noticed that when using this medium
i HAVE TO ADAPT my lines to the marker rendering
more "design " straight or curve loooong lines
more pure design not many detail ...large areas
and the like
also iam trapped inside the linework
and tend to not pass it
......maybe do some marker sketches where
i pass the line for better quality area
and cover at the end with black marker
or white ink to delimit shape
http://www.gab8.com/ca/abthumb/marker1.jpg
so here it is a second attempt
i made, i was motivated so did
it better ..... :emb: k
more pure design not many detail
but i think cleaner and better shape read
http://www.gab8.com/ca/abthumb/marker2.jpg
practice is the key here .. . . practice and experience
seeya later CA members im glad we are all
so motivated , great community
im happy to be part of it :)

uff this legs are giving
me trouble but i want to
go on so heres the final leg
design as no one here remembers ;)
my final design was supposed
to be giving primary attention
to fabrics so the structure is
like a skeleton where fabrics
will hang and help shape its form
theres a little Illo of what
i search with wind, fabrics & perspective
fabrics capture moisture and helps
engines cool more so lots of fabrics :)
http://www.gab8.com/ca/ksteamb/ksteamb12.jpg
so now ill continue with the
other two female supporting characters
of the story before making design sheets
Keep posting like this dudes !!!!!

Well CA Members heres next day update
with fabrics ....im searching wich design
will be on these gals capes and fabrics
im kind of searching for this "shape"
or "silhouette" for drawings not much
on structure but more sketchy feeling
also to get this when making the full color works
and yes i know there are many hard-bad-type dudes
on CA and maybe this cute stuff is a turn- off, but
i kind of like iconography stuff because is easier
to transfer to perspective and communicates a lot .....
......also im Japan - geek ..... >_<;
http://www.gab8.com/ca/ksteamb/ksteamb16.jpg
Heres some doodles of compo for these project
heres a scene ... hahahaha only i can see this
well anyway hhrmm hrmm ... in this scene
these gals find inside the mine or cave a female robo body
im trying some informal division compo and mixing
some radial , arc and curve lines compo too
always searching for a focal point wich i choosed here
is the head or face of the female robo that is off ( or dead)
http://www.gab8.com/ca/ksteamb/ksteamb17.jpg
i kind of liked the last one where is aerial view ... well i dunno
more soon . . . . by the way you guys at CA are my

I was thinking about
comments like jetpack42 s
i think its a FLAW and ERROR
of my part to not be able
to communicate my ideas with
the audience so this is my mistake
so the problem is:
1) my ideas are not clear
2) my drawings dont have
good enough level of descriptive
3)technique doesnt help depic the ideas
So what the F***K im doing here well:
--Making designs for a 6 illustration personal
experiment project
In full color
--These are 3 robo females that work
as coal miners
--I want to have characters sheets with lots
of visual information so i can use that for
making a SKETCHY ILLUSTRATION
wich is my final goal here
Ill add more if i remember :-P
So no pity me i just ask for patience ok?
ill learn and maybe you too if this fails
Carry on !!!!! :-)
Moving joints and character in action
helps to notice errors in structure
and possible mistakes or traps in future
development of illustration so heres some
exercises using perspective and weight
http://www.gab8.com/ca/ksteamb/ksteamb18.jpg
This is another possible compo, Feiz is trowing
steam out of her vents while holding a miner tool
http://www.gab8.com/ca/ksteamb/ksteamb19.jpg
Heres more "cute" fabrics design research for these gals capes
http://www.gab8.com/ca/ksteamb/ksteamb20.jpg
I promise i will get better guys cause this worries
me now to know my technique and craftsmanship
isnt reflecting my ideas so i have to work harder
Ill do it i have enough inspiration already :B

more conceptual impact

Gabriel, your images are so much fun to look at!! I like how each sketchbook page you post seems to have a goal behind it - to improve some aspect of your work. It seems to me you write up your own lessons and then practice them in your sketchbook :) And it seems like you have a lot of fun doing it!
I really like the concepts you have been posting up in the last week or two - i especially like the page about moving joints and characters in action. There is great strength in your lines - very simple but very well chosen.
I also wanted to say that it was great meeting you in Austin. If you dont remember me, I was sitting near you in the back of the bus to the Rollerderby - me and you were in awe as we stared at Metalwinds' sketchbook. I remember how we discussed how inspiring his sketchbook thread was.
Now I find that your sketchbook thread has quickly become one of the more inspiring threads to look at as well. I stop by often. Keep up the great work :D

I love the "i miss you spacey" page....awesome!

July 21st, 2004, 01:20 AM
hey buddy. first off, i gotta thank you for the monster crit you gave me. .. ..its MUCH appreciated. also, you guys inspire me just as much as i inspire you.. if not more.. .i can promise you that.
that pic you dedicated to me looks real nice, dude. its different than your other work, and i like that. . .its fresh and i would like to see a lot more stuff like that from you.
my crit for you is to do as much reference work as you can. i see that right now you have a project that you are doing, but in addition to that, do loads of reference work every day. .. .i cannot possibly tell you how much it helps, and how much it has helped my work. work on trying to copy something EXACTLY how it looks. .. and do that for many different subjects. the reference work will push your work much more and much faster than anything else you could be doing right now. do reference in pencil, charcoal, oil, acrylic, pastel, color pencil. .. .anything you want. .. .in both color and black and white. spend a lot of time on them as well. .. thats when a lot of the learning takes place, i have recently discovered (with the wisdom and guidance of wes burt). start doing self portraits.. . .make many different lighting situations and use different mediums.. . .draw your face at different angles. .. this will help you develop form and space in your work, and develop your reference skills more.. as well as push your values and develop your knowledge of light and shape.
another piece of advice i have for you is.. .when you do your reference work.. . get really expressive.. . let that pencil flow. get yourself some large paper.. ..something like 30 x 40" or at least 18 x 24", and use your whole arm to draw. take that pencil and loosen your wrist and go to town.. . .keep your shoulder loose as well. throw the medium all over the paper. ... .use something like a compressed charcoal or pastel for this.. it will help you loosen up, but at the same time it will really tighten your drawings. when youre trying this technique, focus on values, but also focus on line quality.. ..work that medium as much as you can.. .roll it in your fingers, jam it into the paper, turn it on its side and twist it around to make some lines and values.. . .experiment with it. and of course, when youre doing all of this, do it from reference.. .preferably from life (set up a still life with a controlled light source). your work is too blocky.. .you need to start seeing those subtle curves and forms. after you have your strong foundation down, if you want to do the blocky thing you have going now, that totally cool with me, but you need the foundation first.. . and if you go with the blocky approach later on, then it will be that much stronger because you will have a strong foundation.
anyway, that is my crit for you, my friend. i hope it will help you in your studies and your journey as an artist.

gabe I was away for almost a month and I was so eager to get back to CA.org so I could follow the progress on your mining robots...
you blow my mind ---------- :jawdrop:
I love everything your working on, and I would love to have a BOOK of how you progressed through this process - you are insane but methodical and I love it.
however, I gotta say, my fave is this (http://www.gab8.com/ca/extra/recipe.jpg) image...this really has emotion to it that I am amazed to see you convey so easily. keep at that part, keep at what Danny suggests even with all the other things you're doing. those tasks will feed each other - all your work will improve and get new life inside it.
i'm amazed. you rock. your thread makes me so glad to be back online.

gabo, i definitely dig the environments. continue to do the reference work. .. seems youre having trouble loosening up. my advice to you.. .go big. .break out of your sketchbook and get some paper thats at least 18 x 24". get some compressed charcoal and go to town on the large paper. .. make sure youre drawing from life (set up a still life or something with a good lightsource). take the charcoal and roll it around, turn it on its side, smear it.. .do anything. draw with your emotions.. .do a drawing where youre angry.. one where youre sad, etc. dont hold back.. .if you feel like scraping your charcoal across the surface because your so mad, then do it. draw fast, draw slow, draw with your opposite hand, draw without looking at your paper. dont thing too much about what youre drawing, just let it flow.. .let it flow from your emotions. also, dont forget to use your eraser (use a kneaded eraser). use it to pull out highlights and to push the values.. .dont use it to correct mistakes. stay expressive when you draw, draw with the movement of your arm and with your entire body. anyway, continue to work large (preferably 24 x 36".. .or something about that size) and use charcoal and chalk pastel to loosen up.
thats my advice for now. peace buddy

You're doing a swell job on the portraits, wether you see it or not. They aren't perfect by any means, but you're getting the right idea. practice will bring with it confidence, dimensionality, form, and likeness.

Hey Gabriel, your stuff looks really familiar, I must have looked over someones shoulder as they were looking through your sketchbook. Your work ethic is awesome! I wish I worked as hard as you do, cause I'd get better so much faster. You're improving a lot already, even in the month or so that youve been posting this thread.
http://www.gab8.com/ca/extra/tribute_metalwinds.jpg
this is by far my favorite picture here. It shows so much confidence and really says a lot even in just a sketch.
It looks like you have a very good understanding of form and structure, so I can't really give you any tips on that. However I will say that lately Ron has been pushing me to leave the structure behind. My portraits all tended to have the same look and feel to them, and overall be very stiff, until I learned to just let go of all that structure I had held onto so dearly for years. Try it out and see for yourself what happens. It might take awhile before it doesnt feel completely foreign, and if youre anything like me, when a drawing starts going south, you'll probably revert back to the structure to help save it. But eventually you should be able to just let it go.
Do you get any chances to draw from life? I'm not sure where you are, but see if you can find and life drawing classes around your area. Even if the teaching sucks, just being able to draw from life will help you immensely.
Keep it up dude

Well now some more bad portraits
its sooo awful........ i depict the strokes with
the pencil laying down the longer part
so i can do more free movements and softer
so i can FEEL shape but look at that soft
mediocre drawings , no character not
pumped up values no nothing , i need to practice
intensity and HAIR RENDERING sooo bad >:{
but repetition and practice has helped
me in getting over it soo i will continue making
this crap until i start pulling up and getting better
of lots of drawings one will stand up i cant be
silly to think in the first approaches i will come
out with a good drawing ... ill practice, practice :painting:

Hey Gabriel,
I must say that I really like those portraits. They have this nice. soft sketchy feel to them.
Maybe a good thing to experiment with is to use a full page just for one face, so you have more space to work with and focus more on the shapes.

everyone here is very kind Thanks again :-)
So now some more portraits . . . .
this time i focus on hair more, feel it
rather than render it so no pumped values
here nor contrast i want to keep linework
at minimum here and do planes with grays
But i couldnt hold it to see this awful
stuff and made some linework on a nude
it is crappy too but linework is comfortable
to me and kind of works sometimes
have to check that fallout too :\

hair is tricky. you gotta make sure to get some speculars in there to really bring it out. all hair has it. the looseness of the lines on the lady laying down...i really dig. :blahblah: i like where all this portrait stuff is taking you. you seem to really struggle with these last few, but the ones before that were really looking better. keep up these studies...you are going far man, very far. know how many albums i heard meanwhile
but this is for one of the best Prog-Rock
bands out there FLOWER KINGS !!!!!
also for QUIDAM too , i dont know where
i would be without this wonderful music :groupie1:
started with big face down and worked
the compo upwards to try find contrast of light
& dark "chiaroscuro" maintaining balance
contrast and dinamic compo is very very hard
guess only practice and life drawing are the key
i like asymetrical faces . . . trying to match features
in a symetrical way breaks spontaneous and charisma
of a girls face , i think . . . so be quick in laying out face
distribution so you dont loose sketchy and lively approach
by practicing a lot daily your line economy and crafstmanship
will develop in a better way . . . i think . . . my english sucks :^^;:

no matter how much render

if its bad placed and unproportioned >:{

Mad props to you dude. These are awsome. You've inspired me to work extra this past week!
you're absolutely right about faces being asymetrical. Everyone's face is slightly different on the left and right. Perfectly symetrical face will look sort of "wrong"; some EU scientists did that once by averaging all the features of the human face and made it perfectly symetrical, the girl looked kinda pretty, but also kind of unsettling. Obvious discreptencies between the left and right will make the face look ugly. Just gotta find that sweet zone where things are asymetrical enough to be attractive.

Now ive been doing brush ink work

so why not give it a try on cute girls :^^:

something that could hold the CHIAROSCURO

where do you find such expressive ref images? or do you just add the beauty and emotion when you draw them?? I'd love to know your secret, whichever it is! these are lovely. your abstract shapes for the miners are also really flowing nicely...I can't wait to see how you progress in both these directions.

gabriel, I'm really proud of you man. You are really sticking with this in a big way. You've inspired me to update my sketchbook shortly. I've been drawing, but not as much as I'd like to. Not to mention, this thunderdome takes away from alot of the sketching and stuff I normally do. Hope everythings going well dude!!!!! you're definitely on the right track! I'd suggest trying to draw some from life now, apply all the practice you're doing. My hat is off to you, sir.

When i started this thread in Feb 2004
my goal was to obtain some stars
in my thread, that was in my mind
always, and after 7 months ive reached it
and i thank all of you for giving me
this satisfaction, i dont have the talent
and spirit that many members and world
artists have so i only have hard work
A month has passed since Austin
A month has passed since i started
my VERY FIRST in life finished sketchbook
A month has passed since ive met wonderful people
and learned so many things from them

i want to get rid of the kind of drawing like
that awful 4 stars up there , i want to rely on
understructure to depict character, sex, age,

jetpack42: Salute dude !!!
Jeff Jaws: Thanks for the comments
im glad you see them with that perception
im to critic about my work so all of
this kinds of lacks of everything im
amateurish artist, no color or finished works . . .
and well i have 3 main references
1)Nylon magazine, they have a site but i prefer
buying the magazzine
2)Peter Hegre photographer, its nude series
of gorgeous girls, not porn, good taste
3)Domai website, i think they have a link
on conceptart, its a resource of various
photographers alla peter hegre
hope it helps . . . .
heres some exercises
first without lifting the pencil
make quick overall sketches
then apply marker in a relaxed way
its fun to do but its hard to notice form
http://www.gab8.com/ca/extra/fasty1.jpg
heres what im searching, i want to
reach this kind of balance between
sooo few strokes and lines and depict
light and form very direct & iconographic way . .
in my very own personal point of view
i think
in this visual society we need to develop
drawings that communicate a message
direct and fast to the viewer, to reach
a level when every stroke, every colour
transmits a link to the whole message
not unnecesary detail . . . . thats what i want
and maybe thats why anime manga
has such advantage because its like a
visual data base where
you choose a combination
to depict a very direct message
BUT
im not saying its the best ...ok? just
saying an example of a good iconographic
direct style of communication . . . .

Hey man I really like your not picking up the pen studies, I had to try it out for myself. Then I got the crazy idea to try doing them without reference. It really forces you to think ahead and feel how your lines are wrapping around the forms you are creating. You might get a kick out of it.

anime and cut the rest, i think i can keep both
But its like when growing up and mature
people tend to cut branches from the childhood
or teenager days when growing as adult, why not
keep all branches of your life ???? hope it makes
sense i will keep developing my drawings and if
in the way anime falls off i wont pick it up again ok?
Thank you for watching dude

Tried some loose
sketching for portraits
the procedure is:
1)loose overall circles & doodles
with a 4H pencil
2)using wide part of a 2B pencil
do overall shapes and detail
3)Do accents and corrections
over 2B without erasing with 6B
4)Kill whites between values
with an overall pass with 4H
leaving focal point in white
BUT
i missed face proportion
and angle, ITS SO IMPORTANT
to get very well depicted the
subtle angles in faces . . . .
:frustrated: i hate it i hate it
this mindtrick, my brain keeps
telling me and forcing me to
find simetry, i need to get rid
of stereotypes and see forms
and not icons or symbols . . . .

Well dudes after watching Kemp & Danny updates
i felt very inspired , i wish i could do
some of that too :needle: so im trying
to FILL ALL DRAWING with values or grays
its an important step for getting a better feeling
of form . how many of us skip rendering cheeks
and jaw muscles and bones . . cause you need
a good control and understructure understandment . . . .
but you gotta do it and stay expressive
here im trying to do fast sketchs but im rusty
i want to do strokes from top to bottom in
a very natural way and in a quick manner depict
overall pose and angles . . . practice practice practice . . .
find the hot spot and down in value all other brights . . .
i think this is an artist job to delete unnecesary information
to do a powerful image and communicate specific things . . .
oh LOOMIS i thank you for so many knowledge . .
http://www.gab8.com/ca/extra/bodylines.jpg
Well and heres a compo study for the robo miners project
here the ladies are taking a nude bath at the mountain lake
its very important to not do so many detail but pay
attention to atmosphere and expression, also compo
visual route -- how the viewer will travel with eyes all the compo
im no good with anatomy in mind ... im a reference addict
and still very amateur in conceptual so i have no big expectations
in this project but to finish it is my goal . . . . .
the robots are almost underwater and used as a structure
for jumping to water ... girls having fun ... and nude :D

gabriel - I just went through all of your updates from when I was last here (which was unfortunately too long ago, it seems we all had a crazy moving shake-up to deal with). But my conclusion is - your a genius. This latest stuff is incredible! Your insatiable desire to learn everything is amazing, and we know that your desire to learn is evident because you document it all in detail. All of the entries in your "sketch diary" detail crucial considerations for artists. To take your work to the next step the artist has to have a philosophy and ideology behind every mark, I can see that so clearly in these pages and in your comments. Gabo, you sir will go far and have come a long way since Austin (but I still liked your work before then:))
this study is the shit! Angles as curves and squares instead of hatching, very innovative.

Drawing is a matter of finding the form and drawing lines over it.
Create values that follow the form regardless of the values you see.
Think of light and dark as shaping the forms not shading them.
Only use value to create form throw the rest of it away.
You don't need all the values ~ just the ones that help create the strongest illusion of form!!!

also looking for fall out
Sh**t this small subtle angled face poses
are killing me . .its veeery hard to
find a spot where its not symetrical boring
like 90 degree front face pose but little angled and rotated . . its hard

aligned wich is very common and make it look good
not plastic or unorganic . . . . dunno

To construct rocks acurattley you
need to thing of em in prespective
just like any other objet, do a simple
plane study before rendering, use some
V. points, model it like if i were the planes
of a face.
The last one is a little to flat, because there
is not a good separation betewen the foreground, and
the backgorund rocks, you values are to similar on
all the rocks, hence the lack of deep.
(use the ideas you got form you erlier studies of caves
with markers, remember, simpler is better :D)
The portraits are looking real nice dude
keep churnig out more, I liked your shedule,
I work on the mornigs and sketch at nite

gabe - don't beat yourself up too much, dude...we love ya! you can't get too down or I'll have to fly over there and smack you around a bit - you're too good to be complaining about your art! you're doing amazing, and I'm sorry your days haven't been super-good with the move and all. I'll be thinkin about ya, and I hope it'll be getting much better soon.
I love the pic of the miners finding the fallen cyborg...the lighting is really nice. you can always refine these images later - you've got to let the pendulum swing back and forth a bit - venture into "too free" and "too tight" from time to time, it won't bite ya. :)
the port of chuy is great! and thanks for the reminder about the helpful critiques forum. awesome nose on the last drawing just before my post, too!!
Chin up, you're a wonderful dude, very generous and talented - keep up the good work!!

Can i make a comment on daily post?
Well i know that many many members
of CA draw daily but dont post daily
because of many reasons, but what
i wanted to say is that posting daily
gives you a different edge. . .
why is that ??? . .
first . . you have the pressure to have
a deadline of time and quality daily
second you see your work published
and beleive me it looks different
than in your sketchbook , your mind
starts to see the errors because of
comparison to others so it helps
on improving your craftsmanship
third ...is more like a feeling
of being with others at your side
working with you, like a classroom
maybe i dont post much on others
threads but i see them and i feel
like a good competition and inspiration
just my point of view

Hey Gabo,
You blow me away my friend, your drawings are beautiful, and you masterfully handle that charcoal. Your linework is genius and nothing less, Im especially drawn to the sketches where you dont pick your hand up from the page, they are incredible. You are, it seems, a little too doubtful of yourself. We are all our own worst critic, I know that Im guilty, but you are very talented and have made huge progressive steps in your technique, enough to make drawings that REALLY stand out, and thats something! Sometimes your even out your grays or slightly mess things, but Im sure we ALL do this, or at least thats what I have found. Hell, I shouldnt even mention these things, they are minor, I was just trying to make the point that sketches are not precious so maybe dont be so hard on youself, because you are extremely skilled and a huge inspiration!
Also something I love about your thread is your in-depth explanations of how you work, they have really gotten me to start considering how I work and think, and how I can better myself. There is a whole philosophy that each of us has to examine, and you articulate it so well, it is very helpful in organizing my ideas and feelings about the stuff that I make. I appreciate it, man. Keep it up!

im grateful im doing a little thing
for others like all of you are doing for me
. . i will keep on and continue trying
to become a better artist someday
thanks for watching
Well one thing when doing
to much reference work
is that you start doing pretty pictures
and less ANALISIS OF FORM thats because
you are worried on your craftsmanship
and not on your mental dissection of things and light
so better do one reference, and then from
my imagination, so you will face real problems
of rendering and analizing your work . . .
compo, lighting, direction, reflected light . . etc etc . .
quick sketches ..developing steps of rendering
and start to feel shape see accents . . .gotta keep practicing
on making more contrasts to depict changes in planes
and dont rely so much on line strokes . . .

These last few pieces show alot of improvement, even if you dont see it yourself. Im my worse critic too and only see what im doing wrong with each piece, but trust your loyal fans, the improvement is there!
im especially inspired by the last piece, the comp sketch of the robots. I get so overwhelmed every time i have to put together a finished illustration, not knowing where to begin.... Coming to your thread helps me remember to take baby steps, be methodogical and keep it simple! you have a gift for breaking things down into digestible chunks. Youll be a great teacher someday!
Dont lose heart. You may be alone, but were all here cheering you on.

Keep Rocking Gabo. Love those figure sketches, Luba Luba Luba. Only thing is the figures seem a little stocky... I think the width and the height relationship isn't quit right for her figure. The height proportions are right on the mark though.
Its great reading your notes, very insightful. I'm learning as much from those as I am from studying your drawings. Your do one ref with one form imagination comment hit especially close to the mark.

here girl miners except one brother
are painting the robo lips,
ya know its a girls time stuff
used letter "s" for face arrangement of characters
im searching for fallout and ambience effect
need more A N A L Y S I S hehehe
they have a direct spotlight
from a robo behind them ...
also the background has to mold
in composition to the foreground subject
to make more visible the shapes . .
one way to find where the projected shadows
and hot spots of light would be
is to change the camera view
. . like try to be the LIGHT CAMERA
as if we are looking
from the "light bulb"
we are the light source
so shadows will look plane
but you will know
where they will fall
. . ok? just some crazy ideas

No matter how much you render
or do detail in a drawing
if the proportions are AWFUL
the drawing be awful !!!!
i missed alll the proportions on this one
why???
because its supposed to be quick sketch
not a semi all rendered thing . . thats
why im mad at this one . . . . >:{

well i was talking to a friend
who is an amazing craftsmanship with
graphite he has a very amazing finish
very smooth renderings BUT he told me
he draws what he sees like draw the tones
and he has trouble SEEING the form, feeling it
applying understructure knowledge. . . .
thats true for many of us
asking ourselves why is this shadow here?
why is this skin tone saturated
what makes this contrats on eyes . .etc . .
and the most important question of all:
CAN WE DRAW THIS WITHOUT REFERENCE??
feel light, feel form, touch with the eyes . . .
the first two line doodles are more like
zig zag approach going down
very sloowly . .third one is furious ups and downs

you got it gabe :)!
nice update as usual :)
i have a friend like that as well .. his maker renderings <well thay are more like paintings with marker really damn nice>are soo tight and cleen to a photoreal levle but he has the same problum at some point he stoped even trying with out a photo ,wich was sad really as he had alot of potental befor he started usning so much refrence for a shor ttime i got him to keep a seprate sketch book with out refrence i tryed to get him to work on the application of waht he was seeing and doing when he had refrence but it only lasted for him for a short time and he went back to photo refrence only <but at least he started using his own photos >
for me i rarely if ever use refrence unless its from life sketches <and i should use them more i think > i think the best way is if studying make to set about to pick some ting up with the photo use and drectly after do some thing fun<with out refrernce> and apply it <fun usualy =solidifying into practical memory>same when do any type of studys make shrue to apply it after and you will get waht your going for
as for the work and the finished pice for shrue hell yah use refrence no question you better because the other guy damn shure is going to and it will bring it to the next levle
keeping mindfull of waht your doing is probly the bigest help .. so you dont midlessly copy ,you can however ithink
copy to have no mind in the end .. but mindless and with out mind <or thinking >is 2 diffrent things
any method i think with practice over time <in any disciplin>will produce results <thats why after 4 years you get a degree ,,cuz any idiot should be able to do the job waht ever it is after 4 years of doing it >but some methods lend them selves better to faster more accelerated learning
any way good stuff man cant wait to see more !

The drive you have within yourself for your art, is amazing.
If I had an ounce of that personal drive you have, I'd be a better artist.

liam.c: absolutely right dude
its a matter of brainwash i think
to flip between reference mode and imagination mode
also a very important issue is
that for example all of this thread
reference drawings except the life drawing
are not 100% mine... why because
its an interpretation of another artist vision
a photographers vision . . . .

like lots of different issues pasted in a wrong way . . .

First one is made in normal process
line doodle with a 4h graphite
general tones with HB
and accents with 2B
BUT
the nexts are in a new way
i kind of liked more ... .
its doing the mass shadow
in a single step with HB
like in the second one
the third is adding 2B
for hair value and skin accents
also the big one is made like this,
NO LINEWORK
this is good for making crisp shines
or light areas . . .it depicts a better
tone approach of skin and hair
and separates better the planes and shapes . . .
BUT
i need to practice this more
because it spends a loooot
of mental energy doing this approach
its exhausting for me now
. . . . without linework
you have to imagine
the limits and depict with
a secure pencil stroke
Lips on that went to crap !!! >:{

its the same as the previous

is that now im starting face rendering too

miss a line in face and you send
it straight to the trashcan . . and
add that theres no linework to follow :dead:
