Softskins Sculpey bust thread (Updated feb. 6th)

So yeah, I want to do a series of bust with the classic horror monsters (i.e. Frankensteins, Wolfman, Dracula, The Mummy and Creature from the Black Lagoon. So here's Frankie, as a sketch and as a bust. I think I'm about 6-7 hours into the bust so far. I'm gonna try and smooth it out a bit with turpentine now.. any comments are welcome :D

I like this face already. It has a sardonic strength as well as pain and pathos. Fearsome yet pitiable. I grew up with these monsters and love to see the interpretations that the new generations come up with.
Can't wait to see the others.

Lookin' great Softskin! I REALLY dig the concept sketch alot! I've been
workin' on my own version of Frankie as well, but I gotta say, I like the
proportions and features on yours much more than mine. Can't wait to
see him finished. :D

Thanks for the comments guys!! This is the second pass..

I've never done this wrinkle stuff before so I'll try with a couple of rough wrinkles here and there, then give them a brush of turpentine with a soft soft brush (found out my brush was was too hard) and then see how that looks and maybe give it some more wrinkles after that. I guess I need a little bit of sponge texture as well on the skin. Any suggestions?

Lookin good. Here is a trick with plastic wrap; you can actually use it several ways; Tear off a sheet and crumple it up push it into the soft sculpy to make great random wrinkles. Second technique is to lay a smooth sheet of plastic wrap over the section you want to wrinkle and then form your wrinkles with a tool. When you remove the plastic wrap the wrinkles will be very smooth and crumble free. You may have to wet the area a bit before laying down the plastic so it won't peak when you pull it off. With practice minimal smoothing will be needed. Hope this helps somewhat.

Looks cool! However I like the sketch more then the sulpt. The jaw of the sketch is very wide and heroic giving him almost a Superman-like face wich I thought was a cool interpretation of the character.
The sculpt while also very good seems a lot skinnier and more traditional compared to the sketch.

I agree.. I was going for a bit more toony thing with him, with traits from the Karloff Monster. I guess I like things from both of them.. the sketch is actually not the favorite one I have made so far.. just the easiest to post, as it was already digital.. I also fell in love with the Cap. America bust from this forum and decided to do a bit more realistic facial musculature and I don't know if that will comply too well with the fat neck of the sketch.

So I finally got it done. Painted it, because I felt the details got smushed by the translucency og the Sculpey.

I still love the face, and the shoulders are way kool....but .....damn...I know this is just my opinion but.....I don't like the hair...I think it kinda spoiles it some how. I liked him bald, but maybe a rather severe flat-top would suit his looks more... I love the rest very much, and can't wait to see what you do with the others.

Yeah I knew I was gonna make some enemies when I gave him the punk/emo hairdo. But it has been a deliberate choice to give him a patch of hair on top of the head. I tried to do a couple of different styles, but in the end I like this curved/angled approach the most.
