SCROLL BELOW FOR UPDATE
Have you ever had those drawings that just spill out and when your done there's elements that don't match your usual style and you think perhaps you were slightly possessed at the time? Anyway, this started as a doodle of some medieval monstrosity. I liked it due to its stylistic deviations (namely the meandering angular lines). I left it for a long time and then, recently, I was trying to choose a simple avatar from my sketchbook and I thought "hey, he'd make a great Blanka, what with the hair and all." So here he is. I tried to go for a Capcom feel with the colouring. I might improve the line weights at some point and his back is pretty lazy but for now he's done.
Please lemme know what you think.

So, two years later I get around to the lightning idea that Sketch suggested. Plus I put in a watercolour texture overlay. God I love doing that! Probably update my avatar soon too with some fancy animated gif glow effect...er sumptin'. Thanks Sketch, it's much more complete this way! Tho, I should probably have some hard light cast from the lightning now that I look at it... :bashful:

That's really slick. His face looks awesome. What about adding some electricity bolts?
I just finished watching Street Fighter 2 Alpha and was dissapointed because Blanka wasn't in it. Other than that it was really cool.

Nice Blanka, Keener. I wish he had actually looked like that in the game. It would be cool if they would really star playing with the anatomy of the more other-worldly characerts in those fighting games, rather than sticking with the slightly exaggurated human form...

Thanks guys.

Tedsuo: A lot of people seem to find to find him pretty funny. "Humourously hideous" seems to be the consensus.

Sketch: electricity bolts is bloody great idea! Don't know why I didn't think of that, but I didn't, so thanks. I know their yellow in the game but I'm thinking whitish blue with blue background would look better. Whatcha think?

McNallyism: I actually thought about that far fetched anatomy thing when I did his back. It does seem odd, him having such a conventional build. Ah well. BTW I visit your as-yet-just-text-site almost daily waiting for the time when my cursor transforms into that eagerly extended index finger of "eyecandy awaits". I'm a big fan of your work.

Thanks again guys. I'll post the linework later tonight.

Glad you liked the idea. I think blue will work. Looking forward to seeing the update. Cheers.

Here's the line work. Like I said, the weight is pretty weak. Could use a once over. I changed: ear holes, neck, nose crease, smile crease, where ear meets head and some lines in the hair. The original drawing is only 2.5 inches tall.

I am anxiously waiting for your troll version of Chun Li.

Btw, this style reminds me of the comic book artist Doug Mahnke, are you familiar with his work?

Heavenly Creatures:Yikes! A troll Chun Li would be infinitly more scary than this Blanka. Just picture those thighs...
Doug Mahnke, guy who did the Mask? Yeah, I see what you're talking about.

Amphex: Thanks guy!

WhiteBlaizer: While I agree that ugly things are much easier to do I don't know about "too easy to draw". Seems like it's still well worth the time and super fun. Oh yeah, what does "ggg" mean?
