Well I never drew anything in a while till a couple of days ago, and I am a bit rusty on my anime, also I kinda started a new tecqnique to drawing. I think something is wrong with this picture I dunno what, now I never started shading it because it was just a practice skech, so the problem lies somewhere else, can someone help me point out my mistakes...:(

I just couldn't figure out the sex of the character, so I assumed it was a girl (because of the hair strainds).. should make the chin less acute, and the top of her/his head looks bald.. is it on purpose? Some other improvements to do, but since a picture is worth a thousand words, and even if I don't know much about manga, here's a little paintover if u don't mind.. :)
(pressure sensitivity fu***d up in photoshop, and didn't want to reboot, sorry about the lineweight :))

Hey Kernal. I'd just like to tell you my opinion about anime. First off, if it wasn't for my interest in anime, I probably wouldn't be a artist now. Though, it gave me bad drawing habits. I drew anime for about 2 years, it was a complete waste of my time. I even bought books on how to draw anime. It taught me nothing but bad proportions and I ended up drawing the same thing over and over. Which didn't make me any better. Looking back through my old sketchbooks (from when I drew anime), then I could see no real improvement in my drawings. I eventually got frustrated with drawing, because I couldn't come up with anything original and creative. Thats when I decided to get into fine arts and just forget anime. My skills have improved GREATLY. I haven't thought about going back to anime ever since.
Me and many other people agree that drawing anime is a waste of your time, because it ruins your imagination and it doesn't teach you anything but bad habits.
I've also filled 13 sketchbooks (100 pages, 9x12) in the past year. As opposed to the 4 in 1 year when I was drawing anime. THATS how much more I enjoy fine arts!
I don't mean to dictate what you draw. I"m just giving you the advice I wish I had. If someone had given me that advice, I would be 2 years better at drawing.
Please, consider my advice. But, do what you think is best, or what you want.

Yeah I see where your getting at, I went threw that too, I just used to draw nothing but anime and then felt that I was drawing the same crap, and that there is no origonality in my work. I draw lots of other things now, I just still draw my anime from time to time, because I just find it more funner and easier to draw to pass some time away...but I still sit and draw many other things when I have some time on my hands, for example my monkeyman that I made to big to scan but I made do..

Yes Anime can be your enemy. it is a very stylised art form and doesn't teach you many of the basics.
I would suggest more life drawing and drawing from refernces. PLUS check out www.saveloomis.com for the downloadable pdf book 'Drawing for all its worth". I don't like the entire book, but it has many very handy sections.

Yes by's, I kinda get the point allready, but if you caught on to what I was saying, I draw many other things besides anime, I just enjoy drawing the "poo" as much as I like drawing everything else, if you go to http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=18695 then you will see no anime, yet I wanted to once to just see what steve will draw, but he disallowed me. Anywho I just want some help regardless of how much you say I should not draw it, because I do want to draw it and would like some help and not someone just saying "you should just draw other things" when I do draw other things. I am just a fan of anime and thus I would like to draw it, if you are just going to sugest that I should not draw anime then its not really getting to the point of this thread I dont want lectures about what I shouldnt draw, but lectures on what I done wrong about the friggen picture or something that I can do to even give it both anime and fine art charateristics.
In summary I am saying I want to get help not people critisizing anime and that I should get into things I allready am in:(
Sorry if I said anything offencive I dont think I did but I do without realizing time to time

well i think that[URL=http://www.howtodrawmanga.com/htbooks.html[/URL] will be a valuable source for you. Also since you do like anime the more you watch and draw more, the better you would be within manga style i believe.

I'm not telling you to never draw anime, but just pointing out that a good understanding of basic anatomy and proportions helps with ALL artwork including anime. If you know how to draw figures realistically then it is easy to stylise them and get the correct results.
