View Full Version : Exercise to help my sketches appear good even when I flip them ?

Hey all, so when I draw something I think it looks good, then I flip the page over to see what it looks like flipped horizontally, and it looks like utter crap. I was told it's because I am drawing it and going along and thinking its good, but I am fooling myself because it must not be good if I flip it at the end and see it so flawed...I suppose I could flip the drawing more often as I work on it. But are there any things I can do to improve my initial sketches so I do not even have to worry about flipping ? I suppose it all comes down to the foundation of the drawing, proportions, anatomy, etc....I just have to find the ability or skill or some exercises to see the initial drawings are flawed as I am drawing them. Ugh ha. Any input would help.

Flip your image more often and earlier in the process. You'll get better and better at recognizing skewing as it happens, but there's no real solution besides practice and experience.

Drawing upside down won't help much to improve your construction skill.

Looking at the sketch in a mirror and from a greater distance will. Do it every once in a while as you work. (It will also punctuate your flow and help you notice mistakes more easily.)
