I just started art school recently about 6 months ago, and Im becoming increasingly interested in the aspects of having a wacom tablet, but I am unable to understand what the nominal size would be...

Anyone out there with tablet experience that can usher me in the right direction please?

I think if you do a Search using the word Wacom, you'll find a lot of information already available in both this forum and in the Painter 7/8 FEEDBACK & HELP forum, possibly in other forums here at Conceptart.org.

Good luck,

gotta find out for yourself...

if a dealer in your area showcases them ... drop by and test various sizes before you make your decision... I've got an artpad a5 from a friend and it just suits me fine ... toyed around with his a4 intuos and it's also ok ... you just have to get used to the size

I actually ordered a Wacom 2 days ago, and because a friend of mine (who works on a Wacom intuos2 A5) told me that if he would buy one now, he would buy a A4 or maybe even A3. The one i ordered was A4. It cost me about $600.

expensive wacoms are well worth their price. i had to... settle... for a cheap 4x5 tablet. having used some of the 6x9 beasts in the labs at school, i really do regret not investing in a nicer tablet. i got a graphire 2 (least i think that's what it is :| ) and the work surface is covered in a low-friction plastic... there's no "grab" to it at all. it feels very weird.

conclusion: expensive wacom == good.

malicious,

That's an easy problem to fix.

Just tape down a surface you like. Some people use paper to get a more natural feel, though I don't like that option myself.
