View Full Version : conceptart.org hardcover BOOK NAME IDEAS!
Jason Manley
February 18th, 2004, 06:39 PM
Hey everyone,
We are currently in the early contractual phases with a publisher in order to finally put our book The Art of Conceptart.org together.
We need a name for the book. We thought you all would want to have input on this.
What should it be?
i would like the tagline to be something about the art of conceptart.org
here is an idea or two to get things started...any help brainstorming is appreciated.
ImagiNations (we are a diverse group here afterall)
Imaginations Online
DO MORE ART
I dunno...see...I need some help here!
J
PS. we will be handling this similar to how spectrum is done. we will have submissions, judges, possibly awards...and the like. This is for you all. a thunderdome section might be cool too. anyhow...first thing is first...names names names.
lets hear it...the good and the bad...but hopefully not the bad. ;)
best.

Shut up and draw is like something youd see on a how to book, you'd want something that "captures the essance of what concept art is"

Good idea, i kinda like the shut up and draw too. Some from the top of my head:
imaginary places
conceptart: an online communities view on line
conceptual arts 24/7
I think there are other books released that in one way or the other brought online communities to print. ("ca.org: a community in print?" nah.) Might be interesting to find out what they did.

I haven't been around Conceptart long, but I really like "Analog".
"The art of conceptart.org" sounds redundant ... maybe
"The new media of ConceptArt.org",
"An illustrated annual of ConceptArt.org" (if it's going to be a yearly thing),
or "Holy Shit! ConceptArt.org goes hardcover!" (*hehehe* - couldn't think of a good third example).

i like hardcover as a title. great idea. sounds simple and like a solid piece of work.
what about something that does not sound at all related to art? (and having "conceptart.org" as the subtitle)
davi's symbols idea is cool i think.
at first i thought about something like... "conceptart.org - a bag of kittens" or something like that but just symbols is even cooler i think.
why don't we name it:

Work's slow today and I'm good with words. Let's see....
conceptart.org
-conceptual centrifuge.
-omnibus one.
-conceptions. - completed conceptions?
-ruptured perceptions.
-fragmented pieces.
-visual fragments.
-works from the hoard.
-abnormal artworks.
-aberrant artworks.
-vitality.
-members.
-limbs.
-amputation.
-missing pieces.
-block of art. - BOA? Books are kinda like a block?
-concentration one.
-swarm of makers.
-completed canvases.
-finished illustrations. - CAFI 1?
-surreal visions.
-ethereal works.
-conceptual focus.
-nucleus.
-effluvium.
-envisaged.
-abnormal nexus.
-from mind to vision.
-coagulated concepts.
That's my hours worth of contribution. It would be better if I knew exactly what the book contained. How many illustrators too.

No sleep for the the wicked: The art of Conceptart.org
Sleepless Knights: The art of Conceptart.org -- Play on the sleepless theme...
On our own terms: The art of Conceptart.org -- This hints at CA.ORG being the creation of many individuals, etc...
Sacrificial Time: The art of Conceptart.org -- Or something to do with giving up free time to contribute to the forums
The art of Conceptart.org: In Your Hands
Restless Minds: The art of Conceptart.org
From Creation to Concept: The art of Conceptart.org
Digital Realities: The art of Conceptart.org
Beneath the Skin: The art of Conceptart.org
Lastly, in nice big shiny lettering right smack dab on the centre of the cover...

Here's some that I thought while struggling to stay awake at work.
Concept
-I like this one but I don't think it lends itself to having a concept.org subtitle very well. Using the same word twice on a cover may seem a bit redundant.

Conceptart.org: Mutant
Kind of a boring title, but I was thinking of a theme of representing the entire site as an organism with the artists and/or their works as its limbs.
That could go a couple other ways, too:
Metropolis, Hive, Colossus, Schizophrenic, Legion, etc.
McNallyism
February 20th, 2004, 12:15 AM
A one word Title would probably be best and easiest...
Genesis (concept art is the genesis of a visual idea)
(would "Genesii" be the plural?)
Forge (a place to create or the act of creating)
Eclectus (A variation on eclectic, reflecting the wide varietey of artists and ideas here)

McNallyism had some great title ideas. I also support "Shut Up and Draw..." as a title. The one word titles sound better though. HARDCOVER to me sounds the best. It's clean, professional, it gives off a feeling of quality. Combine that title with a smooth, professional cover and you got yourself a winner in any art collection in my opinion. Combine that with the quality of work on these forums and it will definitely be a kickass art book.

No? well at least i tried :D
I too like hardcover, but you should make sure it hasnt been used before and also that it stands out as a title, not just as a version tag (excuse me sir, do you have the softcover version?)
More ideas:
"Chew on this"
"OMGWTF?!?!?"
"CA - 10 years of bloody good art" (wasnt sure of actual number of years ca has been running, but it might be nice to make a note of how long ca has been around for - lends credibility)
"No Filters Required"
"Tabuse" (tablet abuse heh)
"Globalreconnection"
"Book #44" (or random, mysterious number)
"Immortalisation : Remembering our legends of CA"
"Prelude to now - An introduction to the future of ca.org"
"LOOK HERE NOW!"
"Music for the eyes"
"Aaand....cut!"
go for your life.
PLEASE make sure that
1. the book is available internationally (even if its just thru a CA mailing list)
2. That there is a chance for non-pros to get exposure. Some chance for those of us who havnt had the chance to become pros yet to show that theyr getting there
Maybe even have some tutorials, articles written by members, just interesting stuff that will mean something to CA's members, as well as just great art. Like....80% art, and 20% articles, profiles etc.

i really like the "CAORG" thing. it looks like a real word, but it aint, and its kind of intruiging, plus, it makes sense once you open the book and see "conceptart.org" written somewhere inside.

the only line i can think of is
"- out of your mind"
but i like the
"huge download" ant the
"analog" maybe "analog parts" or "analog file"
p.s. if you use the short name you should still use the point
"ca.org"

Another slow day at work.
I've put some more thought into this. Focused on some different things.
Less vague, more vague. You know.
Here we go:
-conceptart.org - conceptual codex.
-conceptart.org - annexed.
-conceptart.org - volume.
-conceptart.org - the atlas.
-conceptart.org - concept compendium.
-conceptart.org - the album.
-conceptart.org - folio.
-conceptart.org - mental images.
-conceptart.org - perception.
-conceptart.org - assembly lines.
-conceptart.org - mass.
-conceptart.org - construction workers.
-conceptart.org - construct.
-conceptart.org - design disruption.
I'm still liking...
-conceptart.org - omnibus.
or
-conceptart.org - ocular omnibus.
That's what I got for now.

Hey I'm thinking that Androids idea ORGANS would work really well.
It applies to the site, the artists (being 'organs') and would grab your attention on a book shelf. It's one word too...
Conceptart.ORGANS
ca.org.ans
Conceptart.org: ORGANS
something like that...anyway, just thought I'd put in my vote for that one again

I'm fairly new around here, but a longtime lurker,
my ideas,
- Creative Bandwith
- Digital Muse
- PenSpirations
- Bandwith of Brothers:cool:
- PIXELations
- 72dpi
- Low Resolution(s)
- ScreenShots
- UNDO
- DAICAHON ( means " Big CA Book" in Japanese)
"A Gallery of ConceptArt.com" or whatever explanation would follow the titles.
that's me.

I dunno if anyone suggested this yet because im too lazy to read all of this but you definitely need to have the 5 stars that the good posts get on the cover. They could be like embossed mettalic foil.

I like analog a lot more than hardcover. Also ORGy seems pretty good too.
Some other ideas I had:
"CA.ORG: Now with more dead trees!"
"ConceptArt.org: Reformatted"
On another note, if someone's idea gets picked do they get something? If any of the ones I suggested are picked I'd want something. A cookie would be good :D .

And a suggestion to put the names of well-known conceptart.org artists on the cover to help sell the book, like Jason Manley, Feng Zhu etc.. With those and the Pony, it'll sell like hotcakes, no doubts about it.
