In case anyone's in the same boat as me (still using CS), I thought I'd mention Adobe's "post-announce upgrade policy" which they don't advertise: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/153/tn_15304.html?PID=2159997
I chatted with a few sales representatives and they confirmed that if you upgrade from CS to CS4 before May 1st, that you'll get a free upgrade to CS5 after it's released (CS2 is normally the earliest eligible upgrade version for CS5).
It gets a little tricky if you want to purchase from a reseller instead of directly from Adobe, however. Though a valid key should insure the upgrade, the sales representatives didn't think it would guarantee an upgrade. Plus, you'll have to send in a receipt and wait extra time for them to confirm the purchase.
Still, I'm thinking of purchasing Photoshop CS4 Extended from Amazon because it's way cheaper there (plus the Adobe store wants to charge me $30 in sales tax).
