This is something that I am redoing (from a painting I did last year) digitally. The old one was a halloween project for a class I was taking. Let me know what you think. I am feeling a little stuck on how to take it further.
Thanks much!!

i dont have much to say other than its great work,
its kinda wierd (not at all in a bad way) how you used really warm colours in a painting of death, and how you made death a woman (right?)
maybe you could use some blue/purple in the shadows?
maybe not, i suck with colour anyway

I think it's good work too. And I like the updated direction, which is towards more contrast. My suggestion or comment based on personal tastes is to steer more towards more dramatic lighting and color. Maybe along these lines . . .

I don't mean to say this is what you MUST do . . . I just wanted to play around alittle with color and contrast . . . I just like to see more violent lighting and color . . .
I like your choices of subject matter, and I don't think it's anomalous to depict death as a woman. Check out some of Terry Pratchett's Discworld books - like 'Soul Music'. Lots of fun.

That's beautiful and eerie. It feels like the face, skull, and hands have an unnatural glow because they are to bright for the environmental lighting. At the moment it just looks like the values don't match the environment but it could be made to really look like she has an strange supernatural glow or aura about her. I was thinking that if you put a white fog circling around her feet (but not infront of your foreground crosses) the strange fog could be the source of her strange glow. Just an idea. Beautiful work on the cloth it has a nice sense of form without being over rendered.
The green background gives it a lot more depth...

Thanks again for all your comments. And thank you for your compliments. They are helping tremendously. This is really the first image I have taken this far in Painter, typically I used painter or photoshop to try out colors and values for tradional paintings, because its quick and in college you have to be quick.
-usagi yojimbo and captain_harlock- I think I will avoid the addition of other hues in this picture because I wanted to work with a limited pallette and focus more on the composition and values. I tend to do a lot complementary color images, because they are more dramatic, but in this case I want to tone down the drama and keep it more of a quiet moment of Death considering her labors.
-mermuse-she is supposed to glow and I will try out your fog. I think it would help focus on the "glow" if I were to bring down the skull, which I am working on.
Thanks again. I will update this image once I get a chance to work on it some more.

Awsome stuff. Though i some what of having a problem with the middle grave (between the more rounded cross in the right, and the blocky cross in the left) I don't know what exaclty, but i don't really like that grave. :)
