Spartan Camp #133 - 50 gestures + Optional "Skull Study"
The aim is to produce 50 gestures by Sunday the 18th of April.
- The gestures can be of anything, human, animal, cavorting capybaras.... You can draw full figures, but you can also go for heads, arms, eyes, or anything specific. All media can be used, both digital or traditional. Coloured or black/white. Quick scribbles or long studies. Imagination or referenced. Clothed or nude. Specifics are up to you!
- In addition to this, participants can choose to do an Optional "Skull Study", in any medium.
Additional notes on this weeks’ Optional Study:
Self-explanatory! Topic of the study should be a skull. Can be human or animal, a still life or from reference, digital or traditional. All variables and specifics are yours to decide. Have fun!
50 poses is a challenge, but don't hurry or stress yourself reaching it! Focus on drawing, as practising is the main goal of this exercise.
Critting each other is highly encouraged!! Share constructive criticism, reference and resources!! Let's help each other get better!
Come on soldiers! Flex those muscles!!

Nice lines Black Delphin, good colours in the skull too.
Here's mine for the week...all pencil except the last page which is fibre tip pen. I feel like I got the hang of it towards the end, the last one I did bottom left is what I'm aiming for. Gotta practice more.

I was too inactive this week too... I did some stuff in paper but they are unsighty, I couldn't shoot them well and I still draw with pencil in a messy way (Those are in my SB anyway but I won't include them here).
The only digital ones are these quick and lazy things (fighting with ps brushes is hard too):

Of course, I did the optional, I LOVE skulls with a passion. I planned to draw a female and an animal skull too but I didn't do them in the end... One day I won't be lazy to draw the teeth more or less properly...

I will have plans for next week. I will be a good girl if I pass my exam on Thursday (motorbike driving) and realize my old plan I always wished since I joined :D

Hey guys! nice stuff in here!
BlackDelphin
Hey! is that bridgman i see? :) I like the two in the top right corner the best! try to see the forms, the ones on the the bottom row are kinda sloppy, but u prolly did these pretty quick! -Lets see more! ;P
As for the skull, i like that u jumped right into color, but maybe work on the values..there doesnt seem to be a very clear light direction...Keep studyin'!
Angel Intheuk
Your gesture really got better as you drew... 30 sec are hard but be careful not to make ur limps look like they are made out of sausage links!. I know u were drawing super fast to try and capture the whole figure in 30 seconds...but maybe try some where u just draw the arm or the hips for the 30 sec..the more u know about each part, the better your whole figures will be! The last page is nice, keep it up!
ShiNIN
Nice value studies!...reminds me that I need to practice knees and elbows! Maybe try to attach the arm to the shoulder and and the legs to the hips...its important to learn how they attach...I really like the skull!

Woaha!!! u have been busy... Nice studies, all in value! Awesome Job...nice forms and Skeleton studies, and figures in motion...others in Perspective, really nice! keep it up!

BlackDelphin : I agree with Angel Intheuk about the color of your skull. It looks really nice.
Angel Intheuk : It's amazing how you can get this much done in 30s. I wish I could do that. I thought your line is really fluid. Nice.
shiNIN : The skull is really nice. Just thought maybe you could force the light value a bit more. It will create more form. Good luck on your exam.
aprat : It is interesting to see how you try to see through the figures and draw the skeleton of the figures.
Here's mine for the week

Impressive!
Some quick thoughts.
BlackDelpin-
Bridgman! Bit of a personal favourite I have to admit. Haven't tried his traditional method digitally yet, seems like a good practice. Nice skull. The colours are hard to define. You may want to figure out the (direction of) the light source. The lightest areas on the skull seem scattered.
Angel Intheuk-
Always like the organic shapes. Think it's very refreshing to 'forget' about construction and study those human forms a bit in quick sketches. Head shape can be especially hard to define in those quick ones... Is a fibre tip pen the same as a fineliner? Always like to learn about other media.
shiNIN-
Those are nice in-depth studies though.. good to have some knowledge of those big muscles. My skull study isn't finished yet but I agree - they're always fascinating. And meaningful as a study. Don't hesitate to show the high-res version in your SB, I think yours came out really nice. Good luck on the exam!
aprat-
Very Busy! It's so interesting to see that when the correct values are in place, the figure looks fine without even needing too much polish or detail. Smart studies with those skeletons.
Sealegs-
Really pushing those heads! They all seem to be constructed on your own, its great to see how some of those are looking really natural. There's always the risk of facial features (like eyes, nose, mouth) ending up too big. Not sure here, I think it's a common problem. But you seem to handle it really well. Love the skull - crisp brushwork.
echo7925-
Those are some really tough studies you've done there. Not scared of anything! I'd say thats a good approach though, I get stuck on 'easy' studies too often. Your method seems a lot different in those civet cat studies. With those round shapes in perspective. I think that works out really well.
Wanted to practice heads, but got caught up in studies that were a bit on the long side. Tried to simplify things and quickly define the face.

Sealegs: Thanks. I know I should practice everything... I try to go in steps, whole figures confuse me... This week I can't draw full bodies at all.
I like your heads, they inspire me, I draw such things myself recently, it's my favourite topic and now I start to take it reeeeeeally seriously :) It's fun but different angles are hard.
Your skull is cool :D One of my fav topics rendered in a way I like... :)
echo7925: Thanks! Indeed, I just grabbed a reference based of its angle, it has too little contrast and I was a coward to alter it... I know too little about showing the form through values but I want to change it as soon as possible.
aprat: Nice studies, many of them really show the gesture and the beauty of human body... I like those sexy red skeletons too :)
