In a couple of days I created some sketches of droids with sniper rifles. I wanted to go further with th concept and create a real picture, beoynd the sketches. This is what it turned into. I wanted a technical blueprint feeling. Thats why I have this particular pose, and why the grid is in the background.

Inked i photoshop for the first time... always ink my drawings by hand otherwise...
Color in photoshop..
If I draw more droidecas I will try to work more on dynamic scenes. :)

Yah, I agree.
It looks too much like something youd see in a crappy flash movie..no offense, just reference to the shading style.

yeah.. and about the name.. droidecas arent the rolling bots that appear in the first part of StarWars: Episode 1, to try to kill Obiwan and his master?

even though there are interesting issues in this work, it's a fact that the result is definitely too squarish and cold. but in a bad way. despite the fact you mentioned the technical aspect of your work.
there's a lack of freedom in the forms, in other words, it doesn't "breathes" enough to really please the eye.
a few things that may help for your future character designs:
- the front view without any perspective can be interesting for modelers, but it can become deadly concerning the explanation of a concept.
-free your line art a bit, and concentrate on the whole posing and design balance. the fact of having an "achieved" look to a painting is secundary. once the design balance is excellent, then, and only then, it will be useful to explain the details a bit.
- ask yourself the question about the model structure. is it a model you would really like to see in 3d? will it be rich enough in terms of realistic details for any good rendering?
for exemple, a robot is much richer when it has been used a bit. when it's a bit rusty, when the mechanics have become less effective.....
go visit the robot thread in the speed painting section, you'll definitely see stuff that may help.
