Hmm, wouldn't bones you give a (even vague) idea of structure which with to base the muscles on?

Perhaps someone with more experience can verify or nullify my theory ;)

Learn about bones first. If your limbs are the wrong lengths your person will look really odd.
You don't need to be science-perfect, just be in the ballpark.
Muscles and tendons attach to bone. Without bones you're just a quivering pile of goop.
