My fellow romans!
In short: Blob OC is a drawing game played with OpenCanvas (see opencanvas wpe thread for more info).
How it's done:
2 players each draw an undefined blob outline, for the other player to make something out of.
It's a so called creativity booster because you try to make the best out of a given shape.
In detail: Best to let the other player draw on a white background, se what we do is fill half the canvas grey and draw the blob using the eraser.
Some images to clarify this babble:

these are the blobs from a session Matthew and I had yesterday. Left is Matt's blob for me, and vice versa.
This here was the result:
http://www.hyver.com/store/mattman_hyver_OCblob2.jpg
and here (http://www.hyver.com/store/mattman_hyver_OCblob2.wpe) is the wpe.
WPE info:
you'll see another blob on the left side at first, but that just didn't do something for me, so Matt kindly did another one :)
There, that said, I'd like to invite everyone to try blob-oc and post some results here.
Hell, it would be cool if people started working on other people's blobs as well.. and... aaargh the options.. the sky.. the Light!
anyway, enjoy

Brilliant, brilliant idea, perfect for getting out of those ruts where inspiration seems like a distant fellow.

I can't really OC as much as I'd like, so I've taken your brilliant idea and moved it over to Sculpey. I just poke and prod the big, white, heaping blob of sculpture material until it looks interesting, and then I draw it.
This does two things:
1. Works on the 3d - 2d conversion skills. Usually I'll just gesture the blob and then go from there, though sometimes I'll do an extended study of a blob...uh, like creature.
2. Sparks the imagination. Once you get going with one idea, you kinda start to run with it. You add more and more, and eventually your brain will be in high gear.
So yeah, this blob thing really helps a lot. I'm finding it better than drawing random lines, because when you start putting lines on a paper you kinda already know what's going to come out. With somebody else drawing the blob or using some clay, there's a bit of randomness to it that you can't control, so you end up with fresh, oftentimes imaginative ideas.
This could be the very spark of inspiration that would allow a lot of artists to continue drawing even through perceived "ruts" in imagination. If we can draw more creatively and for longer, we'll be able to have better and more developed ideas.
Though, that may be stating too much for now, heh...
Regardless, I'm very excited about all the thoughts that race through my head every time I sit down to do some blob drawings. I've worked it into my morning warm-up exercises, just to get my brain going for the day. I'm finding that I have much more creative energy on days when I do some blob-type drawings than on days when I just stare at the paper and hope for the best.
This was a great idea =D

Oh hell yeah!
I've been using this ever since I found out about it. My creativity's shot through the roof since I've been warming up with this blob technique using clay.
This is something everyone should try!
