I'm gonna dump my sketches here, so feel free to critique. Be mean ;P.
Aaand the thumb pic is crap but I really don't have anything better to put there. I'll make up for it with a pretty smiley: :pirate:

Some sketches from this week (yeah sorry, double. Trying to get the pictures off the first post. Ha). I had several pages of anatomy studies (well, croquis using other kids as models) but I forgot my notebook at school. But I guess it's alright, it had grid lines anyway.... Math books <Sigh>. My scanner is kinda bad so it made the lines look pretty, er, interesting. I tried to fiddle with curves but my amazing photoshop skills made them look even more like porridge... Oops. Oh well :D.

The smile is kinda fake. Gotta work on that one.

Self-portrait with a very enthusiastic face, speedpaint.

Towel study with oil pastels. Too bad my model ran away mysteriously (yes, a towel) so I couldn't finish.

I have absolutely no idea about skin tones so I trained that a bit. I was lazy so I traced my sketch from the ref image (I'm sorry!!!! May the art god smite me and drag me to mankyhell :(), but the colors were by eye since there'd be no point in the exercise otherwise... The laziness almost oozes from the eyebrows. The ear is quite interesting too.

Sorry about the quality! My scanner is crappy so this is my last traditional post (or I could try sketching with ink, might show better)... Only digital from now on. I managed to scan less than half of what I drew today, the rest didn't show in the preview at all.
http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab188/Saarathing/2010-04-0421-29-47_0011.jpg?t=1270406671
Kids are good models for croquis because they don't sit still. I managed to draw my sister more though, my brother was jumping around a teeny bit too much. I guess I need more practise :). I had some nice ones of him but they didn't get scanned.

I've never been interested in guns so... heck. I need to draw more of them.

You are just 15? God, wish I was that good than I was 15. And sorry I can’t offer reasonable critique. Not that experienced myself :). Just keep going. I see lots of potential here.

Insanemily: Thanks :>
I've been lazy and I need to stop doing only portraits... And, uuhh... this picture doesn't really have anything intelligent to say as you can see. The boobs were crap hard to draw, I've never really been drawing them too much... I think they're a bit misaligned right now too. The shoulders and arms also look off... Gotta practice more. Pff, I'm doing all the critting so no one else has to :P.

A skull as promised... Ref from Google with ''human skull''. Gonna be a busy weekend so I probably won't be able to draw anything digital for the next day or two, so no posts for a while. Of course I could draw at night, but we'll see ;).
EDIT: added a dog I drew back in 2007 with colored pencils. I still like it though... I hope the photo quality isn't too bad. I remember that the reference was from Reader's Digest, but I lost it ages ago - it's probably in the trashcan by now. I feel like I haven't improved at all from that time, I probably would draw something pretty similar if I found the ref and redrew it. :(

Hi Louisa. Very nice skills and you are only 15 years old.
I will provide you with one very useful link, if you did not found it already:

LtPlissken: Thanks, I'm sure it will come in handy :)
zelda_geek: Thank you!
I use too much ref... And draw too many portraits... How boring. Drawing from imagination is really hard, I wish I could just BANG get the stuff in my head on paper before they disappear. Siiigh :P.
Ah well. Only been doing traditional and playing with ink so haven't got anything to post this week (aaand I've been a bit lazy, but let's pretend you didn't just read that). More work, less play!

Keep going Louise :) You are doing well. Wish I could do that stuff when I was 15 but instead I went down the manga path...
Maybe you should do some animal anatomy studies if you are bored with portraits :D

ReKaRe: I'll try that tomorrow (or maybe even right now :D), thanks!
Kambei Shimada: Thank you~.
J.R.Segura: Thanks! :>
I'm not dead!
I woke up in the morning and knew that I had to draw again. It's like magic, lol. So I drew 11 pages at school (to the horror of my teachers) and some random poopoo at home. Can't scan the sketches, so I'll just post the poopoo.
The face is a half-assed skin color study after a random photo I found, I lost the link. The 2nd one is yet another color study and the last one is a self-portrait that doesn't look like me (ha). Might post some more a bit later on because it seems like my parents are oblivious to the fact that I'm on the computer way past my ''curfew''. Awesome :)

Hi Louise,I figured i would drop by your sketchbook and have a look since you so kindly gave me some gr8 advice. These drawings are amazing..I am truly inspired, even more so after reading that you were so young..Now,I feel the need to study a bit harder to reach your level of ability..how awesome..thank you for the inspiration..keep it up,i hope to see more soon. =)

J.roxanne: That's the best compliment I could get, thank you! :groupie1:
jwalk197804 (argh, the numbers!): Thanks! :)
Boring post, but let's just say it's for purely documentational purposes, maybe extra motivation.
I decided to scan just for the heck of it.... They actually turned out OK (for the most part), but 2 pages were so light that I didn't upload them since there was no way anyone could see anything on them. Lucky for me since they were the crappiest ones (argh, cheating :D). They had a bunch of people sitting or standing in different places and a hand, so you didn't lose anything.
The ones with the blue line were done on paper I, er, confiscated, from school so they had the school emblem and phone numbers on them which I censored with PS just in case. I don't know if it was necessary, but doesn't hurt to be careful. No CGs this time, although I did do a small lego study. I didn't save it because I never wanted to see it again.... Um. Lol

You my friend are very talented. Keep it up. I would like to see more hard line photoshop painting like the mountains in post 12. It looks really simple and well done.

Martell.Joshua: I can't paint anything right now though, I really have to study... Thanks though ;o
Mr.Alamo, C: Thanks
Ugh, I'm not sure if the quality is too bad... My dad said he won't be assed to scan 12 pages so I just took photos with my cell's camera. I missed one but it's not like you lost anything, it's all crap anyway. Well, if it looks horrible I'll just post the ones I managed to scan in my next posts. The faces and the bird were from reference and the hands from life. The rest is from head.
Aaaargggh I wanna be better :dead:.

Some neat lines in those legsketches. Everything gets better with the "doom" title, no? You´re a gazillion lightyears better than me when I was your age. Keep drawing and practicing and you´ll get really good ;) Talent counts for nothing, practice is everything.
I think you would benefit from taking a look at "the drawing manual" by Glenn Vilppu (He´s finnish! =D ). It´s a great book that covers many fundamentals.
Take care, and keep on drawing =)
Louise Louisa
May 22nd, 2010, 12:22 PM
PurplePlatypus: Thanks :)
kaktuzlime: Yep, doom makes everything sound more epic :D. I also agree with the talent thing, it's just an excuse for being lazy. Sure I do believe in talent itself, but that doesn't mean anything in the long run - you'll fall behind eventually if you take it for granted. And the Vilppu book... I'm afraid I'm a bit broke ATM because I ordered several anatomy books from Amazon so I can't get anything for a month or two. I don't even have a job (lol) so there's not much I can do about it. I could beg my parents though, but knowing them... fat chance. I'll check it out when I have some spare cash, haha.
I've been slacking a bit... It's weekend but I drew the same amount than during the week, aahhghgaah!! Nooooo.... I blame the internets :(. Nothing from head this time (I think?), either from life or ref (AKA. me, posemaniacs or facebook). The gestures aren't in chronological order but the pages with the biggest figures are the first ones I drew. I wish there was some magic button of instant awesomeness.... Skin hands faces wtf aargh!!
Louise Louisa
May 23rd, 2010, 02:34 PM
Wtf, really. I've always been one to avoid work. What is wrong with me? :D
I didn't feel like drawing today. At all. I wasted 6 hours lying in the backyard in apathy and playing Portal before I realized what I was doing. What the hell was I thinking? I don't get closer to my dreams by doing nothing. I don't gain anything from playing video games. It's ridiculous. So, I went back to the drawing board and drew my ass off. But I had already wasted so much time that I didn't get as much done as I had wanted. I'll probably draw something more at night to catch up... I want to at least double the pages.... I should've been able to have at least 3 times more if I hadn't wasted time in stupid things -__-
Some Loomis faces and crap... things on the first page. I thought I'll go through his whole book but I got tired of drawing drawings. I really want to paint something that's not from ref, life or any other crap like that, but when I open PS, I get nothing done. Aaarrghhhhhasdafasdfs fuckk

Wonderful stuff! I see your sketchbook going far in terms of progress and such. :D Keep up the good work.
However, theres absolutely nothing wrong with having a little time to do other things. You're 15 years old, take some time out to enjoy yourself with Portal, and relaxing. You're not a machine. :)
Louise Louisa
May 24th, 2010, 11:02 AM
Exon-Ion: Yep, that's the hardest part ;). The results are worth it though, so that helps a little.
Myllys: Hehe, thanks. You'll just have to catch yourself by the neck and bitchslap yourself out of laziness :).
ModestMouse: Thanks =)
Elz: Well, that's true. The problem is though that knowing me I'll stay lazy if I let myself relax at all so that's pretty much out of question for me. But hey, thanks.
Just some doodles... Didn't manage to do anything intelligent today. The 2nd pic is from a photo base (I'll add it to the attachments) that I destroyed and turned into porridge (lol). I think I kinda overdid it with the layers and brushes, haha.
ModestMouse
May 24th, 2010, 06:23 PM
dont tell me you drew the third pic, i will eat my hands if you did
Louise Louisa
May 25th, 2010, 09:21 AM
ModestMouse: I didn't, so spare your hands. I said somewhere between that wall of text that it's the photo from which I got the 2nd drawing by making it a mess. I probably I should've put it to photobucket and link from there to make it more clear that I didn't do it instead of getting it straight from my computer with the attachments. I guess I wrote a bit too much so that no one could be assed to read through all that (it's in some sentence between all that crap). Ah well.
-----------
I'd like to lie that I haven't done anything today so I wouldn't need to show this ;_;
EDIT: SB vacation. I'll keep drawing but not posting, will come back in a week or two. Hopefully with improvement, although I doubt I'll wake up one morning and paint like Picasso. Doesn't hurt to hope for it, though. :medusachow:

I'm back from my, er, slightly extended SB break *cough*. I haven't really been drawing much other than the odd art assignments, although I must say that I had 3 different ones running during the same semester [EDIT: the word's not semester, lol. I mean the things that a semester is divided into, whatever they're called]... So let's just say that it took me 5 months to fill up my 80-page sketchbook I bought near the time I stopped posting which might tell something... I was aiming for two months. Aahh fail, haha. Anyways, I decided yesterday (actually, remembered that it actually exists. Oopsie) that I'm gonna restart my SB, which you can blame on my premature middle age crisis. I'm getting old and wrinkly but I'm still bad!! I'm not gonna have that. So, here I am.
And, one thing I'm pretty excited about so I just have to share this, lol. I got into the art high school I was aiming for and I'm loving it. The commute is long but it's definitely worth it - the atmosphere is great! All other schools I've been to have had their own cliques - jocks, nerds, whatever. But in this one, you can just talk to anyone and no one will look at it twice. And it's full of hippies ;). There was a hippie van parked outside the gate and in the halls you can see many people with dreads or bags with prints about being green. There are separate foods for vegans and vegetarians... not such a big deal for many Finnish schools, but the thing is that many people actually eat it. And I am surprised for ever saying this, but I love love love the teachers. My painting teacher for example. She has the weirdest sense of humor and she actually crits! Even the really good ones! Aaand the best thing is that she lets me sneak into the classroom after school or during breaks to play with all the materials in there, hehe. Aaahh, she's great :groupie1:.
Anyhow, my scanner is still crap so the pics might look weird because I had to edit them for anything to show. They might be too dark because my screen is super bright... The pics are in order of time.

I woke up at 6 to draw, that's why the emoing. ;P
http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab188/Saarathing/SCAN0010.jpg?t=1290119306
Er, there was a really stupid pic in the corner so I censored it. The girl is from reference on the right page, obviously (OTL). Bus/break pics.
http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab188/Saarathing/SCAN0008.jpg?t=1290119301
Naked guy from head, lol. Got inspired by all the greatness during art history class, hehe. This is where I noticed that I really should start practising anatomy again (the legs wtflol). Uuuhh...
http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab188/Saarathing/SCAN0015.jpg?t=1290119567
Croquis during ethics (they were watching a movie I'd already seen, I wasn't slacking ;P). There were 2-3 more pages than the ones I posted but they weren't very interesting so I left them out. Actually I really like the red girl even with the anatomical fail (for once!).

The.. thing was done on the bus, didn't really have any direction, just doodling for fun. The 2nd one is the first portrait I've ever done that actually looks like the model! HA
http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab188/Saarathing/SCAN0013.jpg?t=1290119734
Leg fail, again :D. The self-portrait doesn't look anything like me, as always. Just look at all the ones I've posted! They all look different, hahaha. Won't say anything about the anatomy *cough*.
http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab188/Saarathing/SCAN0007.jpg?t=1290119885
Playing with my new bamboo pen... I was also gonna start by practising hands but I figured I should start from the big things... So, posemaniacs for warmup:
http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab188/Saarathing/dump.jpg?t=1290119959
